Modeling general discussion
A challenge for you.
As I said in another post, I have not been doing much railroading of late due to lack of. Lake of money: neither my wife or I have ben able to find steady work since we came back from overseas jobs in 09. Lack of space: we have been living with my daughter in her basement. I have of late set up a place to build models and pulled some kits out of storage to do some building.
Bingham Canyon and if I had a million to model it. Link repaired.
Here is an old B&W video of the Bingham Canyon operations for your enjoyment. It is an advertisement documentary that run a little over 9 minutes. I hope it gives someone some modeling ideas. Imagine having the basement and the funds to model this operation! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_Cd2l2qymI

Pullman used paper wheels?
I received this story from a friend today and thought others (like me) might not believe that trains ever ran on paper wheels. Here is the URL: http://www.uh.edu/engines/epi758.htm Having read the article I thought this might be a solution to the metal versus plastic wheels situation. Why not put metal "tires" on plastic wheels? That would end the black grunge plastic wheels leave on the track while perhaps decreasing the noise metal wheels make compared to plastic.
Should 'B' end be consistent?
The end of the box car with the brake wheel is generally referred to as the 'B' end. Is this because it is where the brake wheel is located or is it just the back end? On the prototype, are the cars placed in the consist uniformly so that all cars have the brake wheel towards the 'back end' of the train? I can see this being done so the brakemen knew right away which end of the box car to run to if they needed to quickly apply brakes.
Kato SD70 gear noise
Tonight I was laying some track and testing with a Kato SD70 for bad tack connections. And I heard what sounds like the plastic gears making a noise. My question is. Could they be out out sync or just needing some oil. I have never taken a shell off of a N-Scale before. If I need to do this, is there a video somewhere to watch, or a picture by picture of how it is done. The Kato site just shows a exploded picture and not much detail for me to see how it is taken apart. My hands do shake a little so I really could use a video or pictures to make sure I do not mess anything up.

Signals built from Scratch
Reading HOBen's post on signals brought back some memories of when I first scratch built my first signals about 15 years ago. Not wanting to hi jack HOBen's thread I thought I'd start this one.

I know most of you live in the United States but this question is for my Canadian brothers or anyone that can answer this.

Thanks in advance
Jim

Steam Loco index
I'm looking for a index sheet that I saw once on the web but dummy me didn't bookmark it or print it out.
What this index showed was each steam loco configuratuion, year it was first produced, manufacutre and some other genral info. It had them listed in chronological order. It was very informative. All I can remember about teh site is it had a semi dark yellowish background and teh details were in table format.
Hopefully someone out there knows what I'm talking about or one similar.
Athearn Anticipates Delays On Some Products (2012)
On January 14, the Athearn division of Horizon Hobby announced that delivery of some new products may be delayed by the unexpected shutdown of one of its contract manufacturers in China. Athearn’s announcement came after international financial agencies reported that Creative Masters Limited (CML) had filed for bankruptcy. Earlier reports said CML had not reported a profit since 2009. CML is headquartered in Kowloon Bay, Hong Kong, with manufacturing facilities in Donngguan, PRC.
