Different type of roundhouse

Ok, I'm doing my research for my new layout. I've found some old maps of teh area and see that the Texas and Pacific had a roundhouse and turntable in Fort Worth, Texas where I am modeling. Nothing new right?

Has anyone used Surroundtraxx system

Has anyone used Surroundtraxx by Soundtraxx?

I model in N scale and the sound decoder sounds are missing the bottom frequencies because of the small speakers. Friends of mine who have HO layouts have the same problem (speaker too small).

I think that the surroundtraxx would be a good answer as you can attach a sub woofer to it to get the base rumble and have a sound equipped decoder in the engine to handle the higher frequencies.

I haven't heard this system in operation.

Any thoughts/experiences with this approach?

N scale chain link fences

Hi, I model the BNSF Phoenix sub from Matthie to Mobest yard in N scale.

I want to put up lots of chain link fence. I have used some of the BLMA fence, but it is quite expensive. Has any one any ideas on other materials that can be used to model the fence.

Also the sound equipped engines in N scale are very tinny, has any one used the Surround Traxx system by Soundtraxx on their layout? I think it would provide better base sounds.

Lettering removal

Being a new subscriber, please forgive me if this topic has been up before.  I am trying to remove "gold" lettering from a Walthers HO dynamometer car.  I have tried ELO and dropped 11-bucks on Joe's Model Trains decal and detail remover with no luck.  Does anyone know how to remove the lettering without maring the underlying paint.

For anybody out there            Does anybody know if Stoney Mountain Classic Casting is still in bussiness

Southern Pacific GS Class Locomotives

Why did Southern Pacific dropped the word Lines fom the company's name . Is it because all of SP's subsidaries merged into a single Southern Pacific system. or for advertisement.

Athearn's new GP38-2

Not sure if I'm posting this in the right section, so feel free to move it where it needs to be.

First off, I'm happy to see Athearn's planning to release a new GP38-2 based on new tooling, this should mean that we can look forward to a whole host of new models that suit today's wants and needs. I personally pre-ordered two of the SP models to expand my modest little fleet.

Has anybody built one of those published track plans?

I have been curious to know if any of the members here built a track plan that was published in any of those numerous track plan books?  Model railroader is great at publishing collections of track plans.  Atlas has their track plans and I know other companies do too.  What is the usual plan?  Something published, something modified from a published plan or it just grew to fit your space?  Any comments?
