Modeling general discussion

I'm back.....
Hi all,
well, it has been some time now since I posted some thing . So after adding some details on the layout ( around the concrete team track ramp and the diesel maintenance facility), I decided to shoot some pictures and post them.

CFL's and POWER FACTOR
I know enough how to properly wire to electrical code outlets for the lights for the layout. What I am not so sure about is planning for sufficient load capacity with the breakers when it comes to the POWER FACTOR issue on CFL bulbs. If I were using incandescent bulbs, all I would do is take the number of watts divide by 120V which would tell me how much current (AMPS) is needed and make sure there are enough circuits to cover that load plus 20% since once can only use 80% of capacity per breaker (i.e. a 15A Breaker can only have a 12A load on it).

Need advice on how to eliminate noise from basement....
This is not exactly a model railroad issue, but it is a model railroad environment issue so it is related to the hobby and this issue really is starting to bug my enjoyment of the hobby as I spend more time in the basement. The issue is the water draining into the Sump Pump hole. I live in an area where there is always water draining into it, and the noise it causes sounds like someone using the lavatory and it really is getting on my nerves. I have tried covering over the sump pump hole with insulation to muffle the sound, that didn't work so I'm wondering for
UPRailroadJobs on Twitter. . .
We all know unemployment is high and the economy is struggling but the good thing is Union Pacific is hiring!
I like to follow UPs Twittter job postings (https://twitter.com/UPRailroadJobs). It seems that most of the non-management positions are in multiple locations while the majority of management and technical positions are in Nebraska.

Neon Billboard sign scene
I just installed the Miller Engineering neon billboard sign.
The kit I used was the Blair Line Modern Billboard.
I shot a video of it, in daylight and night time.
Make sure you select the 720HD version.

Overseas Manufacturing. . .
I know this topic can devolve into a heated political argument but my hope is that it will lead to a great discussion for MR manufacturers.
I was reading the following article today (posted on the DrudgeReport):
http://news.yahoo.com/chinas-hu-urges-navy-prepare-combat-160509787.html
To summarize, the Chinese President said that the Chinese Navy needs to prepare for combat; strong saber rattling against the US.

Looking for somewhere to obtain flextrack ties
I am seeking some help. I am trying to find a way to obtain flextrack ties in Concrete & wood. Ideally from Atlas is what I am seeking, but I have contacted Atlas and they don't do just the ties. I am modelling code 100 on my main line and find the ME track to restrictive to get it where its needed prior to putting it down. I am not interested in Proto 87 tie strips, as I was sent samples, and was very disappointed with them. If anyone maybe able to help me with getting just the ties it would be helpful
What is best for ground cover in yards?
HI Guys,
I am new to forum so sorry if wrong place wrong time??
I am in process of building my first layout. I am from South Africa but have always loved the American stuff>
I have found the dvd series by Joe Fugate extremely helpful so far.
I have viewed the dvd that goes through the ground cover up process where Joe uses the vermiculite / cement/plaster mix.
The question I have is what do I use for the areas in my station yards? Do I still apply a very thing covering of the said mix or plain gravel with powder coloring?

Customer Service????
I ordered some code 70 rail, ties and spikes from one of MRH advertisers. I received my order in about three weeks and when I started to spike my rail, I found the spikes were two different sizes, .023” and .033”. All were .250” in length.
I contacted the supplier and was informed the spikes were “far out of spec”. Then they told me there was nothing they would do about it because the spikes were made by some other manufacture.

Forum member railroads
There seems to be a great many members on this forum with wonderful layouts. I would love to see more of your layouts for inspiration. I would like to see everything from bench work to finished areas. Would you all be willing to share more or your layouts with us new to the forum?
