For Us Newbies...

This is a fabulous website, magazine and so much more, however, for us newbies, what other sites or blogs would anyone recommend for both enlightenment and enjoyment in model railroading.

Thanks...

Another Tool Question

I plan on removing cast-on details from some of my rolling stock. I'm concerned about gouging the plastic and such and want to know what is the best way of doing this.  What do you use and what are your opinions on using modeler's chisels for this purpose?  Do they work?  Could I simply use an exact-o knife with chisel blade?

Opinions and suggestions please?

P.S.  Would be great if we could have a separate section for new/old tool reviews- what works and what doesn't.

Modern Day machine shop

I am in the process of constructing my locomotive service facility and i have a question. I have constructed my engine house and have added on a machine shop to represent something that was added on after the original structure was built. The building represents a structure that was in its prime in the late steam era. As helpers are still serviced at this location the railroad required the facility there so it was partially modernised.

Intermountain's new AC-12 Cabforward.

Hello all. Question?

Has anyone seen a better price than $379 (with DCC and Sound) on these new models coming out? I have seen this price on a couple of sites.

Another tool question

I've been on the hunt for angle plates.  They are metal "blocks" about 3 inches tall that give you a perfect 90 degree angle when putting kits together:

Blackstone Models surveys

Blackstone Models have posted two links to surveys on their home page.

They are seeking our opinion of future projects and gives a glimpse of what's in their minds including a comment about standard guage D&RGW locomotives plus a wider range of 3' equipment.

The more answers they get, the more likely we are to see new products from this great manufacturer.

Any Reno Model Railroaders...?

It appears most of the local hobby shops have gone away here in the Reno area. So, hopefully through this forum, are there any other model railroaders in the Reno and surrounding area?

Thanks,

Gary

Layout Location

Hi all!!

Having just gotten back into this wonderful hobby, I was going to make a small layout (2X6) in my music room, when my sweetie wanted to know why I was not going to build it in the living room. I almost fainted! (old baggage for sure). To make a long story short, I now will build an L shaped layout 13 X 6 with a depth of 30 inches. Now it is back to the drawing board for a new track plan.

DCC wiring question

I'm building a new layout.  I will stay with DC initially, but want to be ready for DCC down the road.  I am running a main bus for power, and dropping feeders from every section of flextrack and every switch.  It is a large oval with one bus wire feeding half, and a second bus wire feeding the other half off the same power pack.  I'm using two bus wires to limit the length of each one.
