Modeling general discussion
James John Eager, 1959 - 2016
James John Eager
James Eager died of cancer June 3, 2016 in Lakeland, FL. He was 57 years old. He was a native of Springfield, MA. James had been an active model railroad hobbyist since boyhood, when he and his brother received Tyco train sets for Christmas. The interest in trains led to father and sons layouts in the basement and eventually a Boy Scout merit badge in Railroading.
Ball SIgnals
I have a BEST Ball Signal kit. I saw some where a modeler assembled the signal but modified so that it operated using a switch motor (and possibly also had operating "lanterns"
I'm looking for the article ot webpage
thanks
Ed (BTW i've tried searching "ball signals")

Narrow gauge convention
I am assessing the feasibility of attending this convention:

And I need to know if there is any budget accommodation in the area. The closest I could find was one pub. There are some other places but they are quite far from the venue.

Father's Day - What present do you want for your railroad?
So, what would you like to get for Fathers Day, and.....do you think that you will get it?
I'll start it off: I want (and am getting) a Atlas Gold L&N HH660 locomotive.

Prototype Weekly Photo Fun June 6 2016 to June 12 2016
As there seems to be little interest in this column this will probably be the last week I will bother.
It seems strange to me that a lot of so called Model Railroaders have little or no interest in the Prototype.
Maybe it is just that people can't be bothered posting anything they just want to read what others have done?
Anyway enough griping, I will try one more time!
Time again for a prototype photograph.
When you post please try and include the following:-

Pre-1930's Roundhouse
I want to build an HO roundhouse that would have been prior to 1930. My era will basically be 1900 to 1930. I only want 3 to 5 stalls, but as hard as I've looked, I can't seem to find decent photos of what one of that era would have looked like. I'll probably use a current kit...Walthers, maybe...to build one, but would like to change it enough to fit into that time period. What have the rest of you done for one? Most of my track will be will be in the timber and coal areas...a small town or two...sorta in the "out back" area. My loc

Interesting Omaha switchback spur
While exploring in Omaha a couple weeks ago, I spotted an active spur off the BNSF I'd never noticed before, about a half-mile west of the Amtrak depot. It became even more interesting after researching later via Google Maps and realizing it was a present-day switchback serving Nox Crete Products, in an area where a switchback didn't appear to be necessary as a result of grades.

Changes
I know I havnt posted much on here latley, but my life has gone through some major changes. Until now I only sharred this with my good friend Tom Johnson. After 21 years my career on the NS is over. I have since left Indiana (my home for 45 years) and relocated to Florida. Im looking forward to modeling again just as soon as everything is unpacked.
Gorre & Daphetid still an NMRA trademark?
Does the NMRA still hold the trademark to the Gorre & Daphetid and Devil's Gulch & Helegon, John Allen's wonderful creations? What about the Alturas & Lone Pine (Whit Towers' classic HO scale railroad)?
I'd initially thought it rather arrogant of the NMRA to trademark either of these classic roadnames. I hope the motivation was to protect their historical significance, and not to use the trademark to bludgeon modelers who might want to freelance a piece of G&G or DG&H rolling stock.
