Help With G scale sound

The proprietor of a local restaurant has a DC powered G train scale circling one of the rooms near the ceiling. He asked me for help when the train wouldn't run and I was able to track it to greasy wheels and track. After a thorough cleaning, the train runs OK.

He also has an MK-II Roanoke Electronics sound generator that appears to be 20+ years old which no longer operates. The unit is wired to external speakers. Is anybody aware of an inexpensive sound unit that makes appropriate steam train chuff, whistle, bell etc. sounds?

Which comes first?

Hello everyone

I am setting up my  compressor for airbrushing so I dropped into my local Lowe's and picked up a moisture trap and regulator. My question is as the air leaves the compressor which should it pass though first, the trap or the regulator?

Thanks for the advice!

Which Craft Paints Are You Using for Weathering?

Rather than hijacking the craft paint article thread, I thought it best to start a new one.

I haven’t used craft paints for spraying yet, but after reading the article in this month’s issue, I will probably give it a try.  Awhile back, I spent a fair amount of time comparing color charts for the four main brands of craft paints mentioned in the article with color charts for floquil and scalecoat to compile a list of craft paints to use for weathering.

Kadee Greas-em

Has anyone have using this product for non-Kadee coupler purposes?

I'm thinking it may be useful to reduce the friction of my electrical pick-up-wipers on my TT's rail. Apparently, it is also a good conductor of electricity, but it just occurred to me it might not be feasible on a split rail set up, as the graphite may go on or between the gaps and cause a short.

Walthers limiting its suppliers

I keep seeing notes on websites that Walthers won't be carrying their products, but that the company is still in business.  That's going to hurt a lot of the smaller companies, like F&C and other niche markets, perhaps driving smaller suppliers out.  I think it behoves us to be sure, when speaking with our fellow modelers, to make sure that they know about all the neat smaller companies that are out there, including a lot advertised in MRH.

Does anyone know why Walthers is dumping some of these manufacurers?

Can we do a "post in progress" without posting it until we're ready?

Is there a way to work on an entry to this forum over a period of time without posting it for view by others?  As an example I would start a subject, add text and pictures, and save it without posting so that I could work on it later.  I would return to the same item and do additional postings (saving each one) over time until I was ready to post it to the forum visible for others to read / comment.

Hi tech details air hoses

hey guys, I just received some of those hi-tech details air hoses. Part number 6037 to be exact.  Can anyone give me some tips on how to use these.  They’re rubber and flimsy so not really sure what’s so great about them.  I want my cars to look prototypical in every way but I’m a complete amateur and not sure how to approach these things.  Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks guys
