To diversify or not

I'm building and HO 15"x60" layout. A lot of progress has been made ,track, scenery some would say it looks done.Nah always something to be done. I have built it originaly as a single industry but I keep changing my mind on what industry First it was a new england paper mill, then a fiberboard mill then Linoleum mill. One side of the layout has a structure to recieve woodflour in boxcars and piped into a silo, then an area for covered hoppers of lime to be unloaded and stored in a silo and a spot to unload rosin or linseed oil this would be for linoleum.

Christmas display layouts

This 1955 magazine cover captures the magic of seasonal displays produced by Lionel and American Flyer.  The droll image of this "New Yorker" shows the fascinated faces of future model railroaders.

It looks like this track has American Flyer rubber roadbed, and there's Sam the semaphore man.

Tichy Trucks

I am trying to make Tichy Arch Bar Trucks #3035.  I am new to making trucks and maybe just don't understand.  Step 5 says to "Place truck kingpin in bolster..."  There are no kingpins in the kit.  Even if there were, how would
I screw the completed truck to the underframe?

Another question, is that for $14.50 for the kits, each pair cost $2.90.  A pair of Kadee trucks cost about $10.00.  Are there any reasonably priced assembled trucks that most of you use?

Model photography.. Tip.

It seems there is much buzz about photography lately. Be it smart phone or other, there is something I feel I must say. Please put some light on the models ! No matter what camera you are using, put light and more light on it. If you don't, you just might end up with other issues and chase your tail with settings unnecessarily. Dark pictures are just that..dark. Every ones models look the same in the dark, low detail and dark.

MODEL Railroader digital access

Does anybody have any experience with Model Railroader digital access? I let my subscription lapse years ago but I'm getting email from Kalmbach offering access to their archived issues for $4.95 If I subscribe for $29.95. I own the cd with issues through 2009 but I would like to access 2010 forward. Does anybody know whether I would only be able to access while I'm an active subscriber or could I continue to access via Zinio if I elect not to renew?

Semaphore Operation

Hey all, looking to operate my SP style dual semaphores. I've seen the tech out their by tam valley etc but my problem is, is that I have dual dc analog motors connected to operate my signals. Is their a simple diy cheap way of operating them while the block is occupied? I was thinking of an photo cell sensor so when its triggered at point A arm moves and does not go back until the next point is reached. Any ideas? Thanks!
