Model Railroaded magazine jumps $1 YET AGAIN, January edition.

Most importantly, the stupid overpriced MR magazine went from $5.99 to $6.99 the start of last year and they welcomed their January 2018 edition with another increase from $6.99 to $7.99.

Fox valley models

HI   I was just wondering how good fox valley models locomotives rate , good, bad  ?

Brush Painting

I have some touch ups to do on a couple locomotives, mostly handrails and step edges.  I'm going to just use a small brush, but I was wondering if the paint needs any thinning out of the bottle?  I have some Polly Scale or Scalecoat II to choose from, any opinions?  Thanks!

Ho Scale Elevator

I'm working on a bookshelf layout that's 25 ft long and 8 ft wide (HO Scale). I was wondering if there was any truth about an elevator system that could raise and lower your train between levels. I was planning on putting my train yard on the second level and all my businesses on the first level. I don't have any room for a helix and I looked at a long incline but that too requires long distance to go up 14 inches. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Fine Scale Miniatures Next Kit

I saw this on the Fine Scale Miniatures yahoo group.

I thought you would enjoy this.

Rumor has it . . .
. . . that on the insistence of FSM craftsman structure kit fans, George Sellios will be following up his Jewel Series #19 I. M. Dunn Co. Coal Yard with JS #20 Noyer Knott Sawmill.

Looks like Hobbytown of Boston has opened a store. An excerpt from his news letter.

Club mechanics

Generic open question: How does one go about balancing the needs of a club versus the skill set (or lack thereof) of its membership?

Magazine management

What do people do? I have container upon container of model railroad magazines in the (dry, cool) basement with more arriving each year. Relying on online access seems iffy and expensive. My house is not very large, and not getting any larger.

Is Detail Associates Still in Business?

Is Detail Associates still in business? I can't find them on the internet. If they are in business does anyone have the contact info for them.

Anyone in the St. Paul, MN area? Need research help.

As the post title indicates, I need some eyeballs on a few documents held at the Minnesota Historical Society. MNHS has photo copy services, but they won't even verify to me that a partial document exists.

So my hope is that someone is nice enough and would be willing to verify a few documents held at MNHS. I have all the information needed, box location, drawing number etc. I just need verifying that these drawings exist.

I know this is a shot in the dark, but I figure it can't hurt.
