Lighting comparison on the Richlawn Railroad - UPDATED: Worklight added
I was curious on how the different lighting looks in photos of my railroad. It was originally illuminated by track lights only with halogen bulbs but they were too hot. I installed the Michael Rose LED light board and then later switched out my halogen bulbs in my track lights with LED floodlights that are 525 lumens / 5,000 K each.
The Year in Review
Another year of Jaw-Dropping craftsmanship. I've been weathering cars this year.
The REAL reason this hobby is aging out
The real reason this hobby is aging out is simple and can be demonstrated right here on this forum. I know a number of younger folks who build models. I have talked with even more at local stores and such. I have read non train related model forums and there is a pretty huge difference. In general when compared to other plastic model hobbies model trains are very primitive and unrealistic and use mostly out dated modeling techniques. This is simple fact.

Small Layout Operations
This thread is born out of another recent thread. Before I go any further, the focus of this discussion is how you operate your small layout. This thread is not for the pros and cons of one type layout over another type. I'm classifying a small layout as one that fits into 120 square feet or less. So if you have a 4 x 8, a Inglenook, shelf layout, Hollow Core Door Layout or even a around the wall layout in a room 120 square feet or less and operate your layout in a prototype manner, please post a simple track plan, photos and any paper work that shows how you operate your layout.

Rattle Can Box Car Colors
Over twenty years I've never mastered using my air brush. I spend more time unclogging it than painting with it. Recently my compressor stopped pumping air. I sent it to the manufacturer who pronounced DOA, not fixable since it was over ten years old and parts not available. The only thing I need to paint that is color specific are boxcar kits. I notice Krylon has a good selection of colors that look close in their brown section. Does anyone have recommendations of what colors are close to various box car colors. I am trying to get by witho
Why ask for help then ignore it.
A recent post has me wondering about something. And it is not only this post but I have seen it in the past. Someone posts a question asking for help. Usually on a subject that has a correct answer that can be prove. For instance how do I use this “car key to start my car”. Then they ignore the answer. Often times later on they then “discover the answer for themselves or the get it from someone not on the forum and say as much on the forum.
