Modeling general discussion

What’s on your workbench?

Thanks all for humoring me last winter.  You all have interesting projects!

This is one of two in this VTR paint scheme that I’m just finishing up.

What are you up to???

Hawaii Volcano Lava Update - temporarily locked (off-topic)

It seems as though Hawaii is in the news again so I thought I'd share a little about what is going on as I know it. My role with the Department of Public Works allow some insight access beyond what is normally permitted.

Thank you all for writing and expressing your concerns.

Aloha nui loa!

3-D printing results

In the "Grandt Line" thread, there was a suggestion that 3-D printed items from places like Shapeways could fill the void from a detail part manufacturer closing.  While I agree that 3-D printing can't (yet) match the fidelity of a quality injection mold, it really isn't that far off.  Here is an HOn3 hopper car that I designed and printed.  It prints as one piece, and has many of the needed holes already in the carbody.  Assembly is quite easy.  As you can see there are some very minor "print lines" on the sides, but overall I would rate

Concrete Ties

Does anyone know where I can buy individual  HO Scale concrete ties?

Lighting Question

Hello All,

I'm looking for advice. I recently acquired a 4x8 DC HO Scale layout. I want to light some of the buildings interior and exterior. What would be the best way of installing lights and powering them? I was thinking about Woodland Scenic Just Plug. I was thinking of adding about 20 lights.

Thanks in advance,

Henry

Dremel: great customer service

I bought a cordless Dremel 7300 recently and only used it a couple of times. Now the battery doesnt seem to be charging. The green light on the charger keeps blinking even after being plugged in for about a week. The customer support person I talked to was very nice and said that it should have been fully charged after about 3 hours. They are sending me a new battery pack free of charge.

Does 3D printing take away from craftmanship of model building?

I have a "Reverse Running" type of question.  I have started using Shapeways to create some Illinois Terminal Railroad/Illinois Traction System equipment as can be seen in my store here and in my blogs on this MRH website.

Weekly Photo Fun - April 29 - May 5, 2018

A new week - post 'em if you got 'em!

Project Teaser-What is it?

I'm starting a new project, and at the same time attempting to give Joe a article to publish, so I won't post too many details here but here are a few teaser photos. So far everything seen in these photos has been from the scrap box. Okay, well I did spend 80 cents on the 'hubcap' at my local hardware store.
