Modeling general discussion

Interesting O scale layout started 80 years ago.

Here's an Iowan who fell in love with model railroading 80 years ago and never stopped.  That layout room he has is to die for (as they say).

Framing Lumber (Edited to correct a typo)

Hi Guys:

IM almost ready to start building my new layout, and am getting ready to purchase lumber hopefully this week.  I have access to a radial arm saw, and can rip down boards to whatever size I want.  In pricing lumber, I have found that I can buy 2x4's for about 1/3 of what a 1x8 (to get the equivalent pieces) would cost -- the only downside that I can see is that the framing pieces for the layout would be 1.5 tall x 3/4 -- Ive used that height before and not had any problems, wondering what you all think?

Thanks

Rapido RS -18 issues?

I ordered 2 Rapido CP RS18s and have delayed picking them up due to reported issues with them. They run great for a hour or two and start to stutter then die completely. Some I know returned 7 of the 8 he bought. Since this isnt happening to every one I was wondering how wide spread it is. Anyone else hearing about this?

work sessions

when members took vacations during the summer months, the club would have work sessions instead of operating.  Since the club was established, there weren't major projects.  I found the sessions to be more social than I would like.   I worked on scenery.

Need some hep from the video experts

I get a lot of ideas from old movies.  I model 1955 and a lot of movies, especially from the film noir genre have a lot of great images of industrial areas, locomotives and rolling stock etc.  My question is, how can I capture an image and print it for modeling purposes?  I've got no problem pausing and doing a screen shot for something I am streaming on the PC.  Is there a way to move the film from my DVR to my PC so I can do that? If so, what hardware is required.  Do I need to subscribe to a streaming service to be able to do that?

Identifying farm tractors and detalling them.

Nice little tractors. but I'm wondering if they would be appropriate for 1956 plus.

Air Brush Compressors

Being new to air brushing, I'm looking for recommendations on a compressor.

I picked up a Badger Patriot 105 a while ago and haven't picked up the blowey part yet. I can't see me doing a LOT of air brushing but having it available will be handy, and smoother than the rattle can. Therefore, I don't want to spend a bunch for occasional use. Just something decent enough to do a good job while I get my feet wet.

Thanks
