Interiors for structures
After watching the video on Bruce Chubb's layout I decided it was time to start adding interiors to my structures. I have really gotten into kit-bashing and even scratch-building, but interiors throw me off. As far as scratch building it's not difficult to find small strips of wood, and windows and doors are readily available.. But what about interiors? I learned that Bruce and his gang scratch built the detailed interiors on the layout, but where to start. Any techniques and ideas would be much appreciated.
Revisting: Comparing prototypes to models plus weathering
I tend to not notice differences between prototypes and models until I actually see a photo of the prototype or have to use it as a guide for painting or putting on a decal.
I recently removed a horizontal wafer off my 2-8-0 tender and was researching on where to position the titled one in its place.

Painting Structures
I am in the process of assembling several DPM building structures. The difficult part is not somuch the assembling as it is the color to paint the brick, trim, and details. Currently on a few of the buildings I have either used Floquil rust or Oxide red. I would like to take a survey and see what colors others are using for the brick work or window trim. I realize that this is a very subjective question but I would like to know what other modelers use. I see some very beautiful scenes on the web but I’m not sure what color is being used.
Help with color selection
Color selection is defiantly the Achilles tendon of my modeling. Having zero education in art/light/etc.. I truly struggle with this aspect of the hobby. What I have learned on this forum has helped...the conversations about color temperature are very interesting and will guide me on what lighting to purchase. But then comes the conversations about what color 'palate' is being used....mixing colors...blending....tying everything together...its just terrible for me to understand.
