Modeling general discussion

Cost of Shipping from China
In other threads there have been links to sellers, some on ebay and some with their own web sites, who are selling small-value items of interest to model railroaders in small quantities and providing free shipping from China.
Here's just one example. These tiny motors cost $1.50 each and are available with free shipping, no minimum quantity (you only have to buy one):
"Temporary" layout components
I am about to build my first layout since a 4x8 back in 1978. I'm not particularly am armchair modeler as I have built, detailed, painted and weathered five or six full freight trains and four passenger trains (including a full Pullman troop train minus its kitchen car) worth of cars, installed DCC and sound in a moderate-sized engine terminal worth of locomotives, and built a few structures, including a couple of bridge kits.

A unit train of scratchbuilt hoppers for Rob in Texas - better title
Good evening all,
I wanted to share a video of a long hopper train here and especially to Rob in Tx. The hopper bodies are all scratchbuilt by Bobby Glendinning. The train was operating on the Sipping & Switching Society of NC layout in Raleigh, NC during the 2018 event.
Rochelle Comes Alive
Work is progressing nicely in Rochelle. Below is an update video and a google maps view of the prototype. In order for it to fit in the layout space available I rotated the crossing and tracks about 60 degrees clockwise.
Pearl Harbor Day
Today is Pearl Harbor Day. I had 3 relatives at Pearl Harbor when the attack went down, 2 survived. All have passed now but I did have conversations with one of them several years ago about the attack, he said he was lucky as he was off duty and having coffee at a local restaurant at the time. So I just wanted to take a moment to use this as an opportunity to once again thank those in this forum who have served to keep us free, THANK YOU

What 3D printer?
Prices on 3D printers are coming down significantly, to the point I feel I can justify one. I can’t afford (or use inside my future residence) a resin printer, which would obviously be the best and most expensive option in current technology, particularly for smaller scales... so I’m looking at filament printers, with enough print space to do N scale objects 100 feet long at a minimum, and with resolution as high as possible, while keeping the cost within my limited budget. I know there will unavoidably be artifacts such as layers, but I want to minimize them.
Need advice and another set of eyes on concrete driving surfaces.
This is what I have so far:
1-the track pad concrete is deliberately an off color to represent a new pour.
2-I feel that something is missing, can anyone help? All suggestions welcome.
To choose KD 148 or 158
A modeler getting interested again after 60years has accumulated a couple dozen cars which have horn hook couplers, truck-mounted on plastic trucks.
The choice must be made to forever go with one of the two KD coupler types:
#148(whisker spring version of KD#5) or
#158(semi-scale, whisker spring)
Are there ideas and suggestions?
Is Rolling stock prototype accuracy relevant to you?
I was reading a post recently where a modeler (I use that term loosely) was complaining that he felt duped by a manufacturer because a loco he recently purchased didn’t have the right horn applied at the factory in his/her opinion. He went on to say he was so upset at this minor,IMHO, issue,And that the model was going right to EBay for sale because of this. It got me to thinking, wondering,do we as model railroaders apply such stringent protocols to our rolling stock as we do to locomotives?
