Water Scares Me
Back as a teen I started four layouts. Then as an adult I started two more. None of them got to the scenery stage because it terrified me! Now years later, I am trying again. Last year I built a small static diorama and finally did scenery: rocks, ground cover, trees, etc. Turned out nice, and wasn’t all that hard after all!
Except for the stream. Still not done, and still terrifying! It is time to finish that bugger and I need your advice.
Work continues on my On30 mushroom layout
Now I can start laying track
Bachman decoder install
Has anyone had experience installing a decoder in a bachmann H-16-44. The split weight in this model really fills the shell so milling the frame is a must. It looks like the speaker will fit under the radiator screens but I like the fan detail, any suggestions?
Here a Hudson there a Hudson
My short line the Iolanthe & Utpoia (IOU) will have a single 2-8-2 as its main power. But an intetchange with the New York Central will allow me to indulge in 4-6-4 Hudsons i want at least one of each type, bullet nose, shovel nose, and unshrouded. I will have to dcc and possibly remoter all three. In N scale it's Con Cor-Rivarossi or nothing. But im realy looking forward to my passenger train opetstions.

Rivarossi, 3 pole motors and WOW Sound Decoder
I just put a TCS WOW Steam decoder in a Rivarossi 0-8-0. In short, it ran like crap. It herked and jerked down the track. Sounds nice though. It smoothed out on speed step 2 (of 28). I tried a variety of things, one of which I can't try is removing BEMF. WOW won't allow it. Suspecting the 3 pole motor, I hooked up an Atlas motor and it operates the motor as I would expect.
See a video of the motor control:
Programming Help
Hey everyone,
move been trying to program a few of my new locomotives. I'm using JMRI with a digitrax PR3 programmer. I'm using up to date software and just updated the firmware on the PR3. I have two MTH Yellowstones I'm trying to program and also two brand new BLI SD9's. The error I get is no response from locomotive. I'm wondering if anyone has any tips to get them to work. This set up has been working for every other loco, Digitrax, Bacmann, older BLI etc..
Selling Personal Items?
Howdy All,
It's been a long time since I've been on these model railroad forums because of a stroke I suffered some time back so forgive me if I'm in the wrong area or the wrong website but, I have a new BLI DCC w/Sound Steam Locomotive for sale and I can't find where to post it so, this is why I've posted this here? If I'm on the wrong forum I do apologize however, if I'm in the right place could someone please direct me as to where I want to be to post my item for sale? Thanks so much, Bo aka Texas Hi-Railer.

Tutorial on how to make a Pine tree in 58 secs :)
Hi!
I made this video tutorial on how to make a very realistic Pine tree in less than one minute. It´s a well known and proven method in five simple steps of making Pine trees for any scale model railroad layout by using Spirea flowers. Quick and almost for free for your model railroad / Railway, tabletop fantasy or diorama scenery.

How do you get model chain to look rusty?
I'm curious what others do? I find paint leaves it stiff and the holes clogged. Very thin washes don't seem to cover and chalk rubs off. What am I missing?
Thanks,
Peter

Curious what others do about running different locomotives with different brand decoders installed.....
I was reading the post about the realistic throttle (http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/25866?page=1) with a lot of interest. As I now have about 8 locomotives that run with DCC sound decoders and have enough track laid to actually use them, I am running into the problem of higher functions (other than lights horn and bell which are standardized) and how to remember them all! I use QSI Titans and Revolutions, Tsunami's, and have 1 TSC Wow steam not yet installed. I am also thinking of trying the ESU Loksound as everybody seems high on them.
