A day of live steam on a 7.25" railroad !

Hi all ! ! !

Here is a video filmed on The White rock Southern & Ozon River R.R. in France. It is an american prototype layout layed with 7"1/4 tracks. It was the last run of this year on the layout and you will see in action a superb Baldwin prairie built by the owner Bernard ROCHE.

A great Day !

Lovely day on the Milan branch

Yesterday I met a retired IAIS engineer, Jay Ellis. Jay worked for the IAIS since it’s inception and had a railroad career that spanned over 40 years. Amazing! He worked for the Rock Island, CNW, and finally the Iowa Interstate.

But what was even more interesting to me was that Jay held the engineer spot on the Milan branch for many years, including the year I model the branch – 2003. We spent a very enjoyable day talking all things Milan, toured the branch, enjoyed lunch, and forged a new friendship.

Dropping a feeder

A recent thread discussed the need for feeder conduits in foam. The consensus was that permanent conduits are not necessary, but temporary conduits might make the installation go a little faster. Having occasion to add some feeders to the LT&SS, I thought I'd give it a try. Here is what I came up with.

Adding shipping containers to the backdrop

Greetings,

I just updated my blog with a new post about experimenting with filling in a spot on the backdrop using digital images of shipping containers.

Electronic Module Test Rig

I am by no means an expert in electronics, being a dabbler only, and thought I would post this as it may assist others in their experiments with electronic modules.

I needed a simple and versatile setup where I could test prototypes and assembled modules and came up with this idea that works well for me.

I just posted for the first time to YouTube. I uploaded 5 small videos of trains moving on my past layout, which is long gone.

However, I noted the videos are a bit choppy, but I uploaded the videos in their original format and size.

Hustler: DCC?

Once I finished Travis 2.0 I was all fired up to add DCC to the little critters. The project promptly ground to a halt. Adding a sound decoder was easy. You go light with the soldering iron and just put wire A where it should go. I use Digitrax SDH166D units in all my locomotives. They cost less than $50, which has allowed me to put them in all my locomotives (3 so far). I know there are allegedly better sounding decoders, but they are beyond my budget. They still sound like steam or diesel, and that works for me.

Missing Pennsylvania RR Northern Division website with invaluable car-card/waybill tutorial

Up to about 9 months ago, a gentleman whose name I cannot remember had a website for his railroad that included an outstanding tutorial on how to set up a car-card and waybill system. His railroad is named the Pennsylvania RR Northern Division. Kalmbach has his track plan in their database, but that's all.

Interesting flat car load

Was Google surfing around Hugoton, KS this morning.  Noted this interesting pair of dedicated flatcars.  The large containers say "Haliburton" so I wonder if they're oil drilling "mud" transporters.

In the same town at that time was a privately owned (SFGX) GP7 loco and slug on a grain siding.
