NCE PowerCab Help

Folks;

I have 2 NCE PowerCab systems.  I am thinking of purchasing an NCE SB-5 unit to give me a bit more amperage.

  Here is the meat of the matter, Can I use the PowerCab panel mount and run each one to each of the SB5 connectors, thus giving me 4 connections for throttles.  I know that by using the coiled 4 wire cord, it will turn the throttle into a standard PRO CAB.  I guess i do not want to spend the extra 35-45 $ for 2 UTP panels if the units that came with the PowerCab will work just fine.

Plain Bearing Truck Weathering (Prototype)

I’m a steam-era modeler - and steam-era means plain bearing trucks.  Plain bearing trucks - especially the wheels - “dirty up” in a much different way than modern roller bearing trucks - they’re oily and gunky in a fabulous way.

need help powering my track

ok so i have a standard oval layout with life like power lock track the pic above is a picture of the terminal track i use to power the track. any how i need to ad a second terminal track because when the train engine gets to the back hand curve it starts to slow down as if its not getting enough power. so i have 2 questions

Angled joints?

The "sound thread" that is going on right now got me thinking... This idea applies to anyone building a railroad after the mid-70's at my guess when continuous welded rail started being used. My planned layout during the period modeled had some tracks with welded, and some with stick rail. Some with one side continuous, and the other not updated yet. (offering a unique modeling opportunity)

Athearn Genesis GP39-2

I picked up my three Genesis GP39-2 locomotives decorated for the Portland & Western last Friday - and promptly hauled them on a weekend vacation to Leavenworth, WA for a get together with some people I'd served with in Southern Germany in the early 90s.

Tonight, I got to take some photos.... sorry if the exposure is a little sketchy in some, I'm still working out this whole flash thing, after having decided to try that instead of continuous lighting.

Rail Type Compatibility

I have a layout that has the older brass track.  I want to expand but I am not certain the nickel/silver track is compatible with the brass track.  Different friends have different opinions.  Any input would be helpful.

Manual install decoder in N scale problem

Hi guys I have run into an issue when installing the decoders in the small N scale locos.  You see I have no problems soldering the motor wires on but when it comes to attaching the wires to the sides of the loco (aka red and black wires) I can't seem to get the solder to stick.  Sometimes it does an others it don't.  How do you guys do this?  I saw a youtube of a guy installing a screw but that was on HO and not N so I am really puzzled.
