Welztalbahn: Emsingen station area and terraforming on German-themed layout

I finally started construction of the all-critical connection segment in the town of Emsingen on the Welztalbahn. This segment will feature the main station building and road-side infrastructure of Emsingen station and pull together the Emsingen city segment on the right and the maintenance facility segment on the left.

Here's the situation before I started with the partially completed buildings at their future locations.

Making Dash9-44CW BNSF Sante Fa Pink Bonnets - having a go!

So in the process of building Alice Springs  - A Town Like Alice, a couple of mates really helped out, and I thought it would be a good idea to just say "thanks" for their help, they are both US and Canadian modelers so I thought I would experiment and make up a couple of BNSF Pink boats or Pink bonnets.

I started with two Kato Santa Fe Dash9-44CWs.

An initial pink bonnet "faded" colour was created using a mix of humbrol paints, I find humbrol paints are great for this kind of work.

Mixing Track Brands

Any issues using micro engineering turnouts with atlas flex track from an operational stand point? Should I use a certain rail joiner?

I have a bunch of atlas flex track and haven't bought the micro engineering turnouts, but I'm thinking about using them instead of getting atlas turnouts.

Zimo sugar cube speaker for Athearn GP38-2?

I have an Athearn Genesis GP38-2 with a Tsunami decoder.  I'm interested in replacing its speaker with a Zimo sugar cube speaker. Can anyone make a recommendation as to speaker size?

Thanks!

Cricut Shingles

Perhaps there is no harder problem for railway modellers than shingles.  First of all, because we tend to have a bird's eye view, they are right up front and centre.  Secondly, it takes a team of workers about a week to re-roof even a modest building.  So, while you could install individual shingles, it will drive you cuckoo.  Even if you do install individual shingles, you'll never get them as straight as the real ones.

C&LE 2 Rail O scale switching layout

Cincinnati and Lake Erie RR: O-scale 2 rail, switching layout

Layout space/room: 14’4” by 8’8” rectangular room with a 3’2” entranceway in lower left corner.

I blame my conversion to O scale 2 rail on eBay, Atlas and my friend, Jack Keene.

Knowlton Bridge

Especially for Tom O'Connell, I was going through a bunch of old slides knowing that I had taken a picture of the one-lane Knowlton Bridge bridge as we had discussed here so long ago and did find it, apparently the only one I took:
