Apple Maps 3D as a research tool

I’m probably the last person on earth to discover this, but I recently learned about Apple Maps 3D and realized what a great tool it can be for model railroad research. I especially like it’s ability to seamlessly move from an overhead shot to something that’s much closer to ground level (depending on satellite coverage of the area) by moving up and down with two fingers.

New siding, new industry

I layed track for a new siding in Brighton Park this week; one of the industries that will be served by this is Curren Candy Company.  This structure recently has undergone a rehabilitation.  I originally kit-bashed it back in the 90s from an article by the master of kit bashing, the late Art Curren, following his ideas found in his book:  Kitbashing HO Model Railroad Structures, Art Curren, Kalmbach Books, 1988.

Here we see the installed structure with an WP box of sugar being spotted by ALCO S-2, 22:

Adventures in HOn2 yes 2 foot "gage"

I have mentioned elsewhere pending attempts to model 2' gauge in a less compromising track gauge.

I recently purchased a Marklin Z scale 2-6-2; in hopes of modeling a 600mm US Army Davenport; the wheelbase is a little short but wheels scale out close to prototype.  My goal is to represent one of the "missing" loco's which never deployed "overthere."

New space - time for dream and design

I finally sold the townhouse with it's 10x18' basement layout space and with correspondingly longer commute recently moved into a home with a decent sized basement.  Here are photo's of the space.  I haven't had time to sit down yet and sketch the dimensions on a 11x17' sheet of graph paper to scale, what with all the unpacking and projects to do (new applicances, Radon system, new hot water heater, new counter tops and sink etc.).  The Radon mitigation system has already been installed last Monday.

What happened to Vector Cut?

Anybody know?,  They used to be at  www.vectorcut.com

Just a blank page came up with Firefox, using Google a GoDaddy page came up with:

New Haven Comet Sound Decoder Recommendations

I recently came into a Con-Cor New Haven Comet, standard DC version.  Con-Cor used to sell a version of the Digitrax SHD164 with an oval speaker.  This product has been discontinued by Digitrax and the replacement uses a speaker with sound box (the Comet has a oval sound box already installed).
While there are some sources for the Con-Cor item, prices are in the $70-80.  I could use a recommendation for an alternative sound decoder and speaker.

Connecting a Prototype Master Controller to DCC?

Alright,  I have a weird  question.  I have  a real  master controller from an old New Haven  Washboard MU  car.  I have the handles,  keys and stand.  I've  opened it up and cleaned it up, and it still has all of its wiring in place, so i assume it would still  work if one were to put power through it.  I also happen to have a few resin models of the prototype.

Warning Sticker Placement on ALCO RS11

I've been working on a Conrail RS11, specifically  7651.   I am trying to determine what the actual warning stickers are so I can apply the decals to my model before I go through to the next step of weathering and sealing it all in.

Plastic strip industrial doors

Need suggestions for modelling (in HO) those clear-ish, heavy-weight plastic strip, industrial doors that allow fork-lifts and similar vehicles to drive through without having to stop to open them, but largely keep out wind and rain.  If anyone has any suggestions I'd be delighted to hear them. TIA

Jack
