Rebuilding and Detailing Athearn Switchers Part 2
Lets pick up where I left off last spring. While I mull changes to the Athearn frame, let's start cutting the shell and adding improvements. A mix of old and new photo etchings and details will vastly impove the old tooling.
Milk traffic in Georgia and other southeastern Atlantic states
Hi All,
In his book “Mid sized and manageable track plans”, Iain Rice has an interesting plan for a layout set in the Georgia/South Carolina border area, and includes a creamery as an on-line industry with its own spur, with a comment to the effect that it was not just the North East that carried a lot of milk traffic, but no more is said than that!
Does anyone have any info on this? Were there dedicated milk cars, was this in churns, or were there bespoke milk cars containing class-lined steel tanks for the bulk transport of milk?

If you can have only one, which and why?
I'm thinking about a new piece of equipment, but I only have space (and money) for one.
I'd like a 3D printer and I'd like a laser cutter, but don't know which to get, soooo....
If you could only have either/or a 3D printer or a cutter, which would you buy, and with what rationalle for the decision? And if you already have one, what would you recommend?

Atlas analog diesel
I have purchased an Atlas HO Master GP-40 - Analog engine and want to install a sound decoder. My problem is I cannot fine the exact light board anywhere on the Atlas site. It has a 21 pin as well as an 8 pin socket. If I go with the 21 pin how is the speaker installed? The existing board space is too short for any board replacement. I do believe there is a socket on the existing board that may be a socket for a speaker plug. Since I cannot find a detailed drawing of this light board where do I go to find one.

Proto87 - Instructions for Detailed Parts
Does anyone know where I can find instructions for some of the Proto87 detailed parts?
I have the Turnout Throwbar and Hinge Kit F&E in HO scale but I'm not sure how to assemble it. There appears to be a white strip of some material across the throw bars that the parts are attached to that I can't find.
I also have their Scale Switch stand plastic kit which I hope to make operational but don't know how to assemble the kit either.
Any help is appreciated

Bangor & Aroostook F3
Sorry to soil the day of any strictly realistic modelers, who might feel this doesn’t belong here, but I just finished work on a fun project, and I thought this might be a fun place to share it.
GP non-turbo exhaust stack
I'm modifying a Kato GP35 as if it were de-turboed and upgraded to a 16 cylinder 645C. I've already modified the roof to remove the turbo stack and insert an air filter I cannibalized from an Atlas GP38-2.
Now I need to add the non-turbo exhaust stacks to the roof. My "go-to" part would be the Detail Associates #2402. Apparently, no one on the planet, including EBay, has any.
Any ideas who may have them? Or, feeling like the more likely possibility, does anyone have an idea for an alternate, high-quality part?

Track Plan Help
I am starting my new TOMA style layout and need your help. I want this layout to be very operational. I know nothing about operational needs! I have never seen an operating session on another's layout. The first modual is 30" X 84". #6 turnouts will be used along with code 83 track.
I have been watching TrainMasters, searching this forum and reading back issues of MRH. However, I still feel like I really do not know what I am doing as far as track planning.
Please be very critical as to the plan's ability to be operational.
