Details Associates EMD cab windows (3306) will fit in....

I bet 20 years ago this question would be easily answered by any random person at the LHS, Now that not so many detail, it is less easy. The Details Associate Part 3306 Extra Cab Windows (EMD)

Will this part fit into a stock Athearn (narrow hood) EMD cab window? And will it fit flush?

Or, if not, what is it for?

And, if not, is there an easy way, possibly with a resin, or a product to buy, to fill the Athearn cab windows to make them look better without putting a cannon cab on?

How to change eras with out pain or expense

There have been lots of discussions regarding changing eras for modeling prototype equipment in the forums. So I have been doing some reading of magazines back in the fifties and made a discovery. I have been looking at the dollar car series in Model Railroader that was running in the 1950s and possibly later. This concept started by accident. Tom B. has lots of reference material that is well archived. Ron was building an old kit regarding a carbon black covered hopper car. Tom B remembered an article about that type of car in the dollar car series and dug it up.

O Scale 2 rail ISL inspiration

Link is Google Maps location of old Cotton Belt Main ( I think) north of Waco near town of Bellmead, TX.

Interesting in that access is from east and the old main line is removed north and south of this location.

Three throw stub turnout

I am looking for suggestions on how to operate a three throw stub switch, either by ground throw or switch machine.

Billboard

I'm building a modern billboard - the first steps:

These styrene sheets will hold the advertisement itself:

And that's the supporting structure on the back so far:

Bangor and Aroostook BL2

I have at long last bought a Proto 2000 BL2 undecorated unit. I am fond of anything so ugly that it is beautiful (I am a living example). I want to do it up in Bangor and Aroostook. I've found lots of pics online for detailing ideas.

I'm seeking out an expert on such a thing. I want to know at what time the solid blue scheme was applied and who does the best decals for same? Also which brand/color of paint is best for the B&A Blue?

Oil/tool shed inspired by BOK

BOK - Barry inspired me to start building a tool/oil shed to go along my TT's track.

For now I have a cardboard mockup until I decide on how to make one.

In the meantime, I'll have to design a mound/foundation and scenery for it to go on.

Helix Pieces have arrived.

As part of my new layout here in Emo, I decided to add a helix and create a double deck layout. As of yet I don’t have a workshop to do any specialized cutting so cutting helix sectors was on hold.

What tool is your worst waste of money?

You all know about my love affair with tools. I really appreciate a well designed and constructed tool, and have amassed a substantial collection:

But they aren't all gems. Occasionally I have fallen prey to hype, or optimism or just been swindled and wound up with something I've never used, or worse, tried and found out it wasn't up to the job. For instance, this looked attractive once:

Could this scene be prototypical?

Or is it more likely this old loco would have had a date with the scrapper's acetylene torch.
