Grande Pacific Railroad Helix Close In Scenery Project

9.5 years later we are getting more of our Helix closed in.  Step by step of the whole process.  About 98% finished. Enjoy.  Hope this helps some one.

Hmmmmmmm........

It has been my personal experience that the true flavor, the real fun, the continuous excitement of work lie in the process of doing it rather than in having it over and done with.

"Derra North" - An improbable ultimate layout

Hi all,

This blog is about "Derra North" - the Unanderra North Junction on the South Coast Line of NSW Australia, It is perhaps my "ultimate layout" that will almost certainly never be built.

Previously I'd written on another thread

What's neat this week podcast #37

I was invited back to the WNTW show this week. I want to thank Ken and Mike for having me on again.

Maybe a dumb DCC question?

I often run my layout alone but wondered a couple of things if I ask someone to join me to take a throttle.

1) If a throttle is set to the same loco address, do they both control it or is it stolen?

2) If the above is true then is it possible to have an Arduino send a global command to all engines? For example, an emergency stop.

My concern is that a novice may be running a train and makes a mistake. It would be nice to take control or have a trigger to safeguard tail tracks that go into the oblivion.

Boxcar cement car conversion

I am looking for any information on which train lines ran the USRA single sheathed boxcar converted to a cement car. I have a Tichy model with no decals. I currently model Seaboard Air Line early-mid 60s (pre-merger).

Thanks,

Ben

DCC Rant

Ok So I have a quick rant. The sound decoder offer got me thinking. That is a nice deal for folks to trade out the older decoders in their rosters. Great deal. However it does nothing for a guy like me that doesn't own a DCC system or anything with a decoder. I have looked at systems. Even thought about Building one with an Arduino Mega. Then Looked at the cost of adding Decoders to all my locos and just can't justifiy the cost. By the way I model in N Scale. I can't even take any of my stuff to the Local Club I am thinking of joining because it is PURE DCC.

Old Wooden bridge crane

This topic is a question.  Have any of you modeled a wooden bridge crane?

The type of crane I'm refering to is an interior crane the travels the length of the building.  Bridge cranes have been made of steel plates either riveted or welded together.

Here's the real point of my question...I loaded a piece of machinery from under a wooden bridge crane outside of Detroit.  In an old Ford Auto Plant warehouse.  The building and crane were probably 100 yrs old.
