Train Museums and Social Distancing

Curious Question... I was sitting here, thinking about the San Diego Model Railroad Museum, and how much track they have... and thinking of my own problems because I let my layout sit for a year...

How are museums around the country (and around the world) dealing with track maintenance during "Social Distancing" while all of the museums are closed?

Are these museums able to get a small skeleton crew in to keep everything clean while the museums are closed?

Which red Modelflex or True Color paint for MKT (Katy) locomotive of the late sixties/early seventies era

My plan is to paint and weather one of the red MKT GP7s as it would have appeared around 1975.  Yes, the Katy began painting their locomotives green with yellow stripes in the early seventies, but there were still some red ones around that hadn't made it to the paint shop.  Great photos of them can be found if you search the web.

Transitioning through decks

I'm currently in the process of building a layout loosely based on the INT Roaring Fork Sub featured on Appalachian Model Railroading. I've included the track plan for reference:

My question is: How do I transition the spline road bed between levels? The "no-lix" design moves from one level to the next at Point C on the right side of the plan.

Traffic lines and marking complete. WIP Update

It has taken quite a few hours of measuring, marking, masking, painting and (of course) touch ups. As you can see from the “Google Earth” view. The trailer parking and container storage areas have been lined and numbered. I have not placed the CN Intermodal Yard into my Trenton Subdivision in N Scale. By having the flexibility of being able to move the scene I can work easily on all areas.

Ballasting for a logging railroad

I just finished ballasting the first section on my logging railroad. After looking at countless books on some of my favourite logging companies in the PNW, I realized that most track ballast was pretty close to dirt with the occasional rock thrown in. The secret became not being overly neat and make it feel almost seamless between the track ballast and the surrounding area. The "mainline" is the centre track so I gave it some more rocks to help make it feel different.

Cascade Sub: UP 2513 Weathered

My locomotive fleet has been in need of attention for some time, specifically in the weathering department. As scenery starts to develop, glossy out-of-the-box models stand out like a sore thumb. First on the list of projects was UP 2513, an Athearn Genesis SD60, which spent the previous week in the weathering shop.

Going back to paper

Since the lock in has started I have had a good deal of free time, time to also listen to a lot of education lectures etc.

DIY photo backdrop folks, 2 questions for you .....

For those that print your own smaller backdrops what paper are your using?  I' thinking building shots for my mill scene to fill in the noticeable emptiness and lack of depth

Also, has anyone tried sanding the paper thinner to better hid the hard edge?  I'm thinking similar to like was done to thin magazine ads to apply to buildings for a poor man's decals.

TIA

Steve
