New BC&SJ paint scheme
The 32nd Ave. shops recently completed the new, experimental paint jobs on BC&SJ #74 and #75 (Kato RS-2s). Railroad management seemed delighted. Give Joe Brugger (32nd Ave Shops head honcho) an Atta Boy!

frog numbers and track radii
If a Peco code 75 small radius point equals 24" when it comes to curve radius, is this equivalent to a #4 switch in U.S. Terminology? What then does the curved leg of a #5 switch equal?
I've been trying to find a conversion table somewhere but have had no luck.
Peco express radius by the inch except for the code 83 line which is expressed in U.S. style frog numbers, so what is the equivalent of a #5 in inches?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Raven Pulp & Paper
Here are some photos of the Washington Northern Port Andrews District's largest customer, Raven Pulp & Paper. Because of the limited space I've chosen to model more of the main mill structure than the woodchip yard. The main buildings in the back hide the two staging tracks and have been kitbashed out of several Walthers Kits and a lot of scratchbuilding. The mill itself has 3 sidings, one for the chemical unloading area, one for woodchips which will be spotted on one of the tracks running through the center of the mill complex to the "off layout" woodchip yard.
KATY BALDWIN AS 16
KATY CONVERTED SOME AS16 TO EMD POWERED UNITS WITH DYNAMIC BREAKS. I HAVE SOME OLDER STEWARD AS16 MODELS TO CREATE THAT CONVERSION. I HAVE BEEN HAVING NOT MUCH LUCK FINDING INFORMATION SO I CAN CONVERT THE MODELS FROM STANDARD AS16 TO THE UNITS WHICH KATY UPGRADED.

Wiring a helix...
OK I have my plan for my staging and then some... Now for some questions regarding the helix.
1) I have taken your advice and split the lower staging from a "80ft run" to about 40ft by 40ft.
2) At the end of one run there is a helix. it is 2 levels (33inch rad.)
3) It goes up to my yard on the second level.
How do we deal with this. Before I started reading up on this stuff I thougt that I was OK, now I realize there are some parameters that I need to consider.

O Scale DCC/sound question
I have an older Atlas SW-9 in mint condition. It has a single can motor and runs like a watch, less than 1 smph both directions, competely silent. What could be the problem????? High stall AMPS over 2.5. It would definitely smoke a Tsunami. Josh at Tony's Trains says the QSI Revolution U can handle it..............I'm not so sure about that.
Anyway, I'm curious what others are doing to add sound to these big fukllk size O scale locomotives???
Thanks,
Peter
Scenic treatment of ceiling support column in benchwork.
A 6" square plaster-boarded support column or post rises through my benchwork, separating a three track main line from a freight yard in a very urban industrial area. At the moment, it has undergone the same treatment as the backdrop: painted white at horizon fading to sky blue toward the ceiling.

Wire Armature trees
A few weeks ago our operating group had a tree making clinic at one fo the member's home. We tried our hand at making many different sytles of trees using a number of methods. I took a "shining" to the wire armature method. This method uses florist wire (28 gauge) with twisting and forming the wire to make the armature. Unfortunately, we didn't have any gesso to coat the bare wire armatures to continue the process so I couldn't create the finished result.
Prairie State Railroad design work in process
I have been busy over the past couple of years working on designing my future model railroad: The Prairie State Railroad Company. This layout, inspired by Bill Darnaby's Maumee Route layout in HO scale, is essentially going to be designed much like his HO layout, but done in N scale. As long a mainline run as possible in the space allotted, being a shelf layout inside a 16 by 17 foot room in a 16 by 22 foot garage (the extra space is the workshop and hidden staging yards).

CV 501 - A basic conversion of an IHC 0-8-0
I've had a couple of IHC locos in my collection, purchased years ago simply because they had Central Vermont markings.
One of them is an 0-8-0 switcher, that I wouldn't mind getting to run. To me, the IHCs are a lot more "toyish" than model, but I don't care - I would just really like to have a heavy yard switcher to add to my list.
I've decided to do a quick, basic turn around on this - I won't be super detailing it, or making it match the prototype bolt for bolt.
