Friday Night on the LVN

Lots of action on the LVN on Friday.  Had 10 operators over.  They were divided into teams of engineers and trainmen.  The two hour operating session saw continuous action and by the looks on the faces of the folks below we all had a good time.

Here you can see Ron, Chris and James operating a NAR SD38-2, two BNSF SD70Macs and a leased CFX SD90 Mac through the classification yard.  Modern operations include hauling coal, grain, mixed freight and intermondal.

Anyone remember the Mod to slow down Booster 5 was Recomendations for new DCC boosters.

All; it turns out I had another booster 5 still in the box I had bought, so I guess I'll try and mod the booster 5's to slow them down, I know if you change R5 to 19.6K  it slows the trip time to 130ms, is this slow enough or is there a different mod I need to try and find somewhere?? I'm going run the EasyDCC setup until it gives me problems and then switch, I can't justify changing at the moment. Thanks for any answers you can give.. I tried wading through the EasyDCC forum, but it seems like anyone who knew anything about it has moved on.

Railroad/Marine

Hi Everyone,

It seems that the topic of modeling Marine/railroad is getting in vogue through different media. Here is a short video that I found thru one of the groups which I found very informative. A prototype railroad loading a ferry with more than 8,000 tons of railroad rolling stock within 8 hours. This ferry is impressive, two stories high and don't know how long. I hope you will enjoy it.

Needing Help

Hello - I am new to this, so if I have picked the wrong spot to ask this question - please advise.

Awhile ago, I found what I believe was called the "5 turnout game". At the time, I got called away and never had a chance to bookmark the site.

If anyone has ever heard of this game, and has a link, please advise.

Thanks

Want to get help from fellow N gauge modelers and living in Orange County California?

Hi,

I live in Orange County California and I am trying to start having monthly face to face meetings for N gauge modelers to get together and help each other with their home layouts.

If your interested in getting help or helping others with their layouts, please join the Meetup group that I have started.

Kitbashed Structures by Ocalicreek (was a Craftsman Kit thread)

Here are a few images of previous projects I've worked on.  Specifically, the emphasis was on taking a basic plastic kit or kits, kitbashing them, and or upgrading them towards a 'craftsman kit' standard.  Not that I have acheived this, but I press on toward the goal!

Christmas in April !!!

I just finished watching the last of the Model Trains Video Operation Session Live videos (1-4), after having them in my hands for over a week.

I had been away for several days and could hardly wait to get back to see the balance.

Bernie Kempinski's book.

Bernie's book is great.

While i have no intention of building a steel mill of any kind, the book ofers lot's of infprmation about one of my favorite subjects: Converting existing kits to other uses from different scales. For example, when Bernie built Alkem Steel in N-scale he used the Walther's HO Scale kit and nodified it to make an impressive b;ast furnace on a N-Trak module! Well done, Bernie.

Question from the long experienced

I am working on a 4x8 for the up and coming generation (my 5 year old)

I've been using atlas code 100 NS track (flex and TO's.)

The dumb question of the day:

If you KNOW a layout wont last more than 2 years, is there REALLY a reason not to use Brass track? i'll still use NS for the Flex, but MAN oh MAN, the price on brass turnout outs is CHEAP, well not really cheap, more like, FREE + shipping.as compared to new code 100 TO's at an average of $ 18 a piece......

are there any real techniques to minimize maintenance?

Transfer table staging?

Hi,

I'm thinking of making a transfer table as my staging yard for a small switching layout. I haven't been able to find many examples so I'm putting it out there to see what you all think. Do you have one or have you seen something like this. I'm looking for ideas. I'll try to attach an image of what I'm thinking of.
