Modeling topic

Need help with my first layout in limited space.

Hey everyone, I am just starting out and I am trying to work in a limited space.  I am working with HO scale. Can you please have a look at my layout in the attached pdf, and give me your thoughts.  The blue line is where I will probably have a backing board with some background scene.

On the back right hand corner, I was thinking about having a hill with a tunnel for the upper track.

In the middle section I will probably have it a bit narrower, with about maybe 2 feet deep.

I am unsure on how to set out the left hand side.

Milwaukee- Athearn's new U50

Hi all,

Did any one who went to Milwaukee take a pic of Athearn's proposed U50 ? Since this is my "just to be started on" next project,it would be great to be able to start something else if they are going to produce one soon.

Thanks, Pete.

80% of my mainline concept for my Tehachapi layout

Most of this is still on paper. I have the room done with air conditioning, insulation and lighting. The lower staging is paid for all the turnouts including a "8 double crossover" has been completed (fastracks) etc...

circuitron tortoise Price question

I have found a place with a 12 pack $160 delivered to my house. That seems like a very good price to. Any better?

Mild kitbash of the new Bachmann 2-6-6-2

Not being satsified with the look just decaling the new Bachmann 2-6-6-2 to represent a SP MM3 articulated I decided to go a step further by replacing the air compressor heavy smokebox front with one better representing the class MM3 of which there were 2 originally running on the Verde Tunnel & Smelter line near Jerome Az.

Modelling the Santa Fe "Super Chief" and other Santa Fe Trains Prior to 1971.

I am looking at modelling Santa Fe's Super Chief and other SF passenger trains between the late 1950's and 1971. Could anyone tell me how many full length Dome Liner cars  would have been in service on any one train. Bachmann have a reasonable model of this style of car.

"Laminate" vs. "Glue & Screw"

Please excuse my naivete up front but I have to ask this question:

One word in the model railroading vernacular I see thrown around quite a bit is "laminate".  I see it used very often when people talk about building spline roadbed, using multiple thin layers of material as load bearing structures on their benchwork etc. and I was curious what if any difference there was between laminating something and the tried and true "glue 'n screw" that I've done for years with basic wood forms.

Hoovetown residential area work begins

I've finally started to do the residential area behind the Hoovertown business district.  As with the business district I want to do the work off the layout, so the first step is to make a removable support structure.  Once the support structure is completed, I'll remove it from the layout and place it on my work table to add the streets, landscape, structures, etc.

"Upgrading" Assembled Central Valley 150' Truss Bridge

I have three assembled Central Valley 150' Truss Bridge, in HO Scale and would like to use them for a coal branchline that uses 2-6-6-2's and 2-6-6-6's and 70-Ton Hoppers.  I am modeling circa 1953.  If I understand correctly about the prototype of this bridge, it can not handle the load of such equipment.  So how can I "upgrade" these bridges without trying to disassemble them?  What if I change the string that I guess supports some kind of wire or rod with pieces of thick floral wire?  Or are the steel members themselves too small?  A
