The PWRR - EBT Update

I've been scratchbuilding the first four yard structures at Orbisonia. I've used Northeastern batten and scribed wood overlaid on a foamcore shell. Some windows and the corrugated roof are Clever Models paper products. Paper glued to foamcore works out great.

The first structure is the car shops.

The boiler and coal bin were next.

Ghost River Railway

Well, I finally got my lighting in and took some pictures. The small staging yard is my link with Canadian Pacific Railway and the start of the railway. I hand shift the cars to the shelf above as needed.  Eventually I'll get a waybill or car-card system to controll operation. Engines will not be removed except for maintenance. The far right track is for inbound trains where the road engine will cut off and cross over to the second from right track and await its turn again.

Curved Yard Radius Question

I am designing my version of the AC&Y yard at Brittain. It is a curved yard and so shall mine be. A recent article in the dead tree publication states 48" minimum radius for relaible coupling/uncoupling in a curved yard. I have space for a much larger radius but want to emphasize curved appearance for effect. Hence do not want to unnecessarily increase the radius. HO, 60's-70's era freight on the rails, no passenger, no steam, track centerline spacing flexible.

Designing the vertical

One aspect of this hobby that has always given me trouble is designing the vertical element of my layouts such as mountains roads etc. In the past I have always just sort of winged it and what ever came out was what I lived with.

Walthers retiring the Amfleet I line?

Looks like Walthers is retiring the Amfleet 1 series, hope this means an updated version soon!

Cabride through my under construction station Borve Junction

At the moment I'm building a new station for my Isle of Skye Railway. It's Borve Junction. There the railway diverted into the lines to Uig and Dunvegan. Last week I made a short cabride movie through the station.

Sound Decoder Install

I own several Atlas S1/S2 switchers and I'm gathering information about installing a decoders/sound decoders in them.  I've found some information on-line but much of it is sketchy and seems a bit out-dated.

Soundtraxx recommends using their AT-1000 sound decoder.  However, this is an RTR decoder and all installs I've read about so far use wired decoders and a RTR decoder seems like it wouldn't fit.

working out grades

Hi guys, new guy here :D

Anyway, firstly let me say that I am english, but after reading somewhere (i'm pretty sure it was on here mind) that you should model something which you love, your first inspiration as it were as this will keep everything relevent to you, I am planning on a modest Union Pacific layout.

As a Kid Sherman Hill always fascinated me, sure we have the Settle and Carlise Railway here in the UK, but somehow it always seemed dull to me. You know what kids are like with bigger more powerful toys, and what is bigger then a Big Boy?
