Mine Buildings

Spent a little money over the last couple of days on some building supplies - styrene, card, glue. I'm going to start building my mine buildings. My little pike is going to be centred around it, so it is my logical first step.

I'm using the plans the Jack Work published in a three part series in October, November and December 1959.

My layout is very likely going to change a little according to these mine buildings, but I expected that.

Track Plan Progress

As some of you are aware I enlisted the help of Byron Henderson of Layout Vision to critique my track plan before I begin building. Having no former experience building a model railroad I wanted a well trained eye to look over what I had designed in hopes that serious design blunders would be found before track hits roadbed.

Cutting plastic and balsa for kitbashing

Can anyone suggest a good cutting system for repetition and ease of measurement?

Budd Business Passenger Cars in Passenger Consist

I have several Budd Business Passenger Cars and have researched their history and use. I am unable, however, to find any information of "where" they would normally be placed within a passenger train consist. Since they have an "observation" style back, I would think their placement would be in utilizing such as would have them be the last car of the consist. But what then about the standard observation car that is also part of the consist? Any insight and information will be very welcomed and appreciated.

Bare Naked 8X3 N Scale 3 - Gold Spike Day

One spur to be added later.  Except for the crossover on servos, all turnouts are manual. Atlas #7 with Caboose Industries on the lower and ME#6 direct point throw on the upper.   I still have some track glitches to smooth out and wheel and coupler conversions and then perhaps some scenery.

Sept 2010 - lower level complete - 2% grade started

I have waited to post this until I knew the layout was going to work.  I have been workin gon it for about a year and today was the first full circuit of the track under loco power - forward and reverse

There's More Than One Way to Skin a Cat (Or Power your Frogs!)

It's been quite a while since I've posted an update on my layout progess but there was a good reason:  I haven't made much of any progress in a long while! I won't lie, I get jealous when I see this guy and this guy make such great progress when things have been basically unchanged in my basement for the balance of a year.  Inspiring work that I only wish I could emulate!
