Backdrop Progress

I made a quick update post on the LK&O blog about my backdrop progress. For my US friends, if you find yourself so full of turkey you can't move and clicking is all the motion you can muster up this holiday have a look.

DCC feature request

The question was recently asked, "What would you like to see made available in DCC?"

Well, here's my list.  Some things exist, some don't, but this is what I want

Wiring question

I have what is essentially a single track mainline with reverse loops at each end. The loop at one end is a long dogbone in which the two tracks run parallel for some distance to give the impression of a double track mainline. I assume I follow the directions for wiring reverse loops for this section but are there any issues with having a long loop section? Also, how does the wiring change if I add crossovers where the tracks run parallel? I am wiring for dcc.

Now that's silly ...

No it's not a model railroad (or even an ideal one)...

It is railroad related.

Is 2n + 1 overkill for staging?

2n+1 is a formula Tony Koester came up with, though not an actual formula, the ideas is in Layout Design, plan for the number of trains you think you will run and therefore need staging tracks for, double that number and add one, because one always seems to run out of staging.

New Position Light Signals

Hi Folks, I have been working on  some new signals and thought I would show the group. The store bought ones seem to expensive and most of the time are not to scale. I have combined a TrainCat kit with Oregon Rail Supply heads. I cut the backs off the heads and use just face and hoods... not perfect but pretty good. The LEDs are surface mount without lenses (from Mouser) and I am using Zebra Wire to hook them up. I glue the LEDs to the head with gap filling ACC.     How does it look... any suggestions?

The Last Whistle Stop

Hi, Jack from Star, Idaho.  I guess we are all on the same train when we must realize that it's time to pass the controls to a new engineer.  As I have mentioned in previous posts I have MS and I have reached the point that things are getting difficult to do and with much thought and sorrow I have to say that I have reached the end of the line.  I need some advise on the best way to sell my layout.  Every thing I have is Ho scale and in really excellent condition.  I have everything from steam to diesel most with decoders and sound.  In addition,

Railstars DCC components

Railstars has been a lurker on this forum for some time now, but perhaps you've seen our banner ad for LOLbooster, our 3A DCC booster kit. Anyway, the time seemed right to introduce ourselves, our products, and our plans. We're very excited about our products, and we plan on making a few announcements in the near future; watch this space!
