Spline Roadbed Fall Protection

All,

For those of you using spline roadbed, what are you using to protect your trains from falling to the floor in the event of a derailment? I know rosin paper has been mentioned for use between parallel tracks, but I'm thinking something like a turnback loop.

Thanks,

Lou Nigro

Fitting one brands shell on another's frame

Here's a topic I haven't seen before (please correct me if I'm wrong), but does anyone out there have experience mating one manufacturer's body shell on another's frame (or the flip side of that, frame to shell)?

Hazardous Material Handling - Pre-1977

Here is a link to a pdf copy of the handout for a clinic I presented today, Oct. 25, 2020, on the OpSig Virtual Meet Up on "Hazardous Material Handling, Pre-1977".  In 1977 the old hazmat rules changed to the more modern ones we used today.  This clinic looks as the rules from about 1914 up until 1976.

N gauge timber wagons?

Hi all,

I'm attempting to model the renewed use of timber trains in the north of Scotland, UK. I'm trying to find an OTA timber wagon (or similar) in N gauge but seriously struggling. Annoyingly Hornby is releasing them in OO gauge, however no luck for N.

Any ideas for kitbashing?

Rio Grande Models will survive

Just read on the HOn3 discussion group at groups.io that Eric Bracher's Rio Grande models is being sold, so that after the sale is complete and the buyers get themselves going, the RGM kits will be back. This is certainly true for HOn3 modelers but RGM also made some structures which could be used for narrow or standard gauge.

RGM's models are soft metal, wood and plastic craftsman kits. They make up into really good models. It is good to hear that 50 years of work will continue with new owners.

Pokey 3.0 - Construction

It's been a year and half since I tore down my last layout so we could move.  After a lot of remodeling work in the new house I'm glad to say that I'm finally able to begin construction on a new layout, the Pokey 3.0!

As I've done before, this will be an HO free-lanced layout, based loosely on the N&W Pocahontas District between Bluefield, W. Virginia, and Williamson, W. Virginia, era 1966, with some Appalachian mountain scenery which I love.

Sleepy town of Bingham on the Copper King Mine and railroad.

Sleepy town of Bingham on the Copper King Mine and railroad. The video I uploaded this week on my YouTube channel is on Copperton the last remaining town at the mouth of Bingham canyon, nothing to do with model railroading so I just share a link if you want to check it out; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHPgr-wWPwk&t=22s

real metal finish

I wanted to have my stainless steel passenger cars have a real metal look.  Since I don't have an airbrush, I needed something that could be brushed on.  looking through what I had on hand it occured to me that nothing looks more like metal then metal.  This is my most recent foil wrapped car, a Walthers mainline coach for the start of my sunset train.

Rusty Rail Color pen and more for one dollar

Now that got your attention, huh ?  Yesterday at my local Dollar Store I came across a set of 8 permanent markers made by a company named Jot.  They have a nice point and the brown pen works well for coloring the side of the rail and maybe a few individual ties.  I'm going back for some more.
