....And That's When I Ran Out of Roadbed
Up there, circled in red, this afternoon. Needless to say I am now waaay behind the goal I set for Labour Day. Actual track-laying has been delayed by a lack of turnouts, as other priorities intervened this fall. C'est la vie. That's the Sudbury return loop, with the Webbwood Sub curving around towards the right wall. The helices will sit on on top of Sudbury and the whole thing will be enclosed.
Available Functions When Consisting Locos w/ Different Decoders
I'm just starting to get into the nuts-and-bolts of DCC and was wondering what decoder functions are available and/or "rule" when you consist engines w/ decoders (in my case sound) from different manufactures.
In particular I have several engines with factory installed Soundtraxx Tsunami decoders and a couple with QSI Revolution decoders. The QSI have a "Heavy Load" feature for F9. If I use an engine w/ a QSI for the lead engine will the consisted engines w/ Soundtraxx decoders also follow the lead of the QSI engine when I press F9?
Herbs as scenic material.
So I have a carousel of cooking herbs that has about 18 containers. I was going to dump them and use it for storage of various items but then it hit me. Maybe they could be used as scenic items.
Is there a down side to using herbs on the layout?
Thanks
Need help selecting an N scale box car...
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I'm pursuing a project to make my own N scale box car with DCC uncoupling capabilities. So I've got this grand idea that I think will work great! And if it does, I'll write a blog about it. But in the mean time, I need the right car to work on to make it work.
Modeling 50s trackwork
Time and again I continue to see photo after photo of brand new continuous welded rail in pre 70s model railroading. If you just scenic the photo side of the rail with rail joint bars every 39 ft. it really picks up the realism of the scene. It surely does nothing to sell the scene when it's 1951 and all rail is welded rail. The Santa Fe line running along I-25 in Northern NM. is perfect for setting the scene. Jointed rail and semaphore signals. See it now or miss the last of 1900s railroading.

Pictures of interior lighting wiring
I want to add interior and exterior lighting to a much of my urban layout. Over the last 6 months or more I have purchased a number of types of light bulbs; Model Power peel and stick, LED, grain of rice, and fiber optic.
Desert Grande Part 4 Backdrop
So At first I was considering not having a backdrop of any sort and just playing on this real-estate of mine.
I then got to thinking and realized a backdrop is the best protection for the wall surface!! And it will look better, too...

NCE DCC CUTTING IN BLOCKS FOR DETECTION
This video is demonstration of cutting in blocks for detection of train or cars in a block. These blocks are detected with BDM 20s.

Intermountain GP10 rebuild (Paducah geep)
Intermountain has announced plans to produce a HO GP10 (Paducah geep) these units were built from GP 7's, GP 9's and GP 18's. they are looking for road names and info on the various moedels built. One idea would be to offer the units built ready to roll with no lettering. Offer them in several colors Red, yellow, blue, green and black, similar to what Bachman has done with thier switchers (70ton, 45 ton etc), this way freelance railroads, club layouts, short lines etc could then be decaled by the purchurser. The GP10 could be justified on just about any diesel layout.
