DCC systems using wifi or bluetooth? Cell or tablet as controller?

I have been acquiring some On30 locos and rolling stock to add several shortlines to an O gauge (MTH/Lionel) upcoming layout build.  Both MTH/Lionel have control systems that allow the use of an IOS device as the controller.

I have never been a DCC user before,  Would appreciate some advice on a DCC system that could also be linked up to my iPad to run the short lines when they are ready.

They can't all be Super Models... Sals Tacos Final

The Fidalgo Island RR #11 – Installing the Lights – The Final Solution

In the previous post I described the first attempt to use LED based lighting. A problem discovered late in the game drove me to start over again, redoing the lighting using a different strategy.

This post covers the final lighting solution for both decks of the layout. This includes everything except the harbor, an area that requires specialized benchwork and lighting. That will be presented later in its own posts.

Civil War 1/72 figures on HO scale 1860s layout

Looking at creating a layout based around the 1860s era and use of Civil War  trains....hard to find Civil War soldiers in 1/87th, how bad would it look with 1/72 figures....6 footers everywhere?

Building of Memorial Falls HO scale

I recently wrapped up construction of Memorial Falls, this is a fictitious location set in the Cascade Mountain Range. It is loosely based on the area around tunnel #11 on Pengra Pass, but also takes notes from Multnohmah Falls on the Columbia River Gorge. I was challenged to build a scene detecting “For Glory and Honor” with the base being a maximum of 8” x 8” with up to 2” of overhang on all sides. The overall build ended up being 12”x12”x22” so a pretty good sized display diorama.

Saturday Solo Ops Session - The Haddam Local

Here's hoping you and yours are having a wonderful holiday season! If you have some time, and would like to experience a little of what it's like to operate a local freight in south central Connecticut in the Autumn of 1948 (or at least get a taste of what it's like to operate on my layout), grab a cup of coffee & settle in for a ride up the Valley Line.

CNR RDC-1s and RDC 3 phase 1

I'm researching CNR RDCs.

I'm trying to figure out what the (i) means in RDC-1 D100(i).

Does anyone know what the (i) means? Does this mean phase 1?

My On30 Bachmann Porter jumps out of gear. Suggestions?

My early Bachmann On30 Porter jumps out of gear easily.  The gear box is covered so I can't add a styrophene or brass  strap of any kind..  It runs great until that happens. Any suggestions?
