Peco Electro-frog turnouts reliability?

Anyone know the long term reliability of Peco code 100 electro frog turnouts( "long" or wide radius version)? I'm thinking about using them in a staging yard since they don't need switch controllers or frog powering devices. I'm specifically wondering how reliable the points throw and frog powering circuit is? If they'd soon need work then I'd just go with hand laid and blue point controllers.....DaveB

BUILDINGS AND STRUCTURES ON GP

This video was made in answer request of individual on kit bashing the Walthers Federal Cold Storage Building.

I cover many of the structures on the GP.

Railroad Maps from the 1945 Official Guide - Compiled by John Barry

I received an email today that was a forward from John Barry (His Blog).  In his blog, he has given a link that can be used to download a pdf of Railroad Maps from the 1945 Official Guide.  There is over 200 pages of information that he is letting fellow modelers download.

I know some of you will find this fascinating.

That Magic Moment

After the “Destroying the Illusion” thread  that got a bit emotive, I have done a lot of thinking about the subject of “visual reality” and come to a (possibly controversial) conclusion.

Anyway, here goes………

There are a lot of candidates out there for “Is it a Model” in the Photo Fun section (blogs as well). I’m not going to mention names for fear of unintentionally missing someone out, but you all achieve great things – Respect.

Shark attack -- mounting a Tyco shell on a Bachmann chassis

Has anyone tried mounting a Tyco Sharknose shell onto a Bachmann Sharknose frame/drive?  I have an old Johnson Wax set that I'd like to get resurrected, but the idea of trying to tune up the Tyco to come close to DCC seems to be a lost cause, and a Bachmann DCC-already drive seems like a much better idea -- if it fits.

Thanks in advance,

HO ELEVATING THE ROAD BED FROM A FLAT SURFACE

what is the best way to go from a flat surface to a raised road bed?

Getting volts but no amps on reverse loop

I have a PSX-AR Auto Reverser to power the reverse loop with the appropriate gaps and it is powered by a Digitrax DB150 Booster. On the mainline, with a RRampMeter and a taillight bulb clipped on as a load I get over 12 volts and 2 amps. When I test the loop I get no readings. But when I unclip the taillight bulb and just use the RRampMeter I get a reading of over 14 volts and 0 amps on the loop.

Water

I went to a model train show yesterday here in Spokane, Washington and saw some layouts that used a product call Virotex.  I like the results and decided I am going to use it for my lake and stream coming from the lake. My question is that I was told that this product had color tint added to it to help develop depth. I forgot to ask where one got the color tint, what brand and how much does one use. Anyone used this product and know what I am talking about?

STOP!

You guys are killing me with all these posts. Beet factories, coal yards, switching layouts, oil tank farms; it never ends and I'm out of room to add anything more. My wife has already put the "Kabash" on buying an old grocery store and my local club has no more room to expand - LOL!

DCC polarity tester

MRH Note: Why DCC polarity matters ... at booster district boundaries or at reversing sections or turnout frogs, if you have the DCC polarity/phase wrong, the locos will short out and refuse to run across the rail joints!

A few weeks ago I posted a schematic for a DCC polarity tester on another thread. I don't remember seeing this anywhere, but I doubt I am the first to come up with it.
