Graphite track treatment

Rather than derail the NoOx thread and in response to Bill's request, I'm starting a new topic on using graphite for contact enhancement on track.  I'm sure someone has mentioned it here before, but I couldn't locate a specific thread on the topic.

Switching Layout - Take Two

About a year ago, I began building a layout. I had decided I wanted a switching layout. I knew we would move out of our apartment eventually, so I decided to build it in sections so that it could move when we eventually did. I drew up some plans and began building. It was an L shaped layout, approximately ten feet by 11 feet.

One way to bevel a 45-degree angle in a wall section

Over the years, I have attempted to bevel kit wall sections at a 45-degree angle so that two adjoining wall sections come together, especially for material patterned with brick or stone.  All with a notable lack of success.

For basswood or plastic, I don't think a powered planer/sander would be appropriate tear the basswood or melt the styrene.  I'm sure there must be other ways than what I devised but I wasn't about to spend the money to buy a powered hobby sander for this project.

Supplied Power AC Filter

Would adding a supplied power AC filter of some sort be recommended for large DCC set ups? We set up at convention centers and at one of these I could stand on the power cord that runs across the floor and feel the power. It was like water running through a pipe. Made me nervous if our system was at risk.

Ditch lights.

A question for any and all willing to give me some ideas   Ditch lights.  I've gotten in the habit of trying to add ditch lights to a loco that I fix up, add DCC to, or just refurbish, DC or DCC.  What are you guys using?

I've gone through a pile of tiny incandescent bulbs trying to find the perfect mix of brightness and resistor.  Maybe I should go to LED's ?

Shortening a Difco to make two types of Western Side dumps

One of my needs for my mine are some side dump cars that are smaller than the 50 yard Difcos that I have. As previously blogged, I did make a 30 yard ribbed western, and a 20 yard western in 3D printing. However to get a fleet of those would cost a fair penny. My solution, cut up some on sale Difcos to make something close.

Tortoise Herding

It's time to install some switch machines in my layout. Not because anything is hard to reach or that the layout is large, but just because I want them. I've bought a herd of tortoises and am about halfway through the job. I thought it might be interesting to document my adventures here in hopes that others will share their experiences too.
