Transfer Terminal Kitbash -- Part 1

I first saw noticed this building 11 years ago while riding the train from Toronto to Ottawa. You get to spend a while looking at it during the station stop at Brockville (the VIA station is on the right). And of course if you're a modeller you think: That cries out to be kitbashed out of Pikestuff!

The Friendship Train of 1947

It started in Hollywood, California - my town. Rolling down Hollywood Blvd. in 1947. This was a post-WWII relief train. I felt it appropriate during this time of rememberance - Memorial Day 2014 - to post this bit of little known history.

Resulted in three trains, each of about 100 freight cars, cross-country to the ports on the eastern seaboard from where the goods were then transported. I was reminded of this when seeing it today on TCM. I direct you to sources of information:

False Front Building Kit Part 1

I had previously posted on a kit project I was going to build, but was side tracked on my display shelf, so now back to the false front kit. To refresh you all the kit is a Bar Mills kit called "Witzingers Washboard Co.". I plan on calling it something else though.

After a couple of reads through the instructions, I think we're ready to dive in. The first section will be the building on the left, shown in the box cover pic here.

Cement Distributor...

Today I finished up adding the base colour coats by airbrush to the structures at the end of the L&T Branch.  The cement distributor has also had a little addition added.

Advice on obtaining a memorial Canadian Passenger Train

Hi All,

A very good Canadian Army mate of mine was recently killed in a military accident and I want to put together a memorial train to him on my layout. I currently have very little knowledge of Canadian Railways so I was hoping someone could advise me on what I need and how I can get it.

sources of junk/ odd parts etc..

What are your sources of junk/ odd parts/ interesting flatcar loads etc...Lets give each other a few ideas we havent thought about.

Gears--I go to goodwill and buy junk watches and take the small gears and misc. parts out of them

larger gears--my dvd player died, cracked it open and grabbed a few larger gears that operate the door and disc drive

miscellaneous steel junk--typewriters are great for this kind of stuff
