Isolated Railroads

As you all know, the rail network in North America, while operated by many different railroads, is all interconnected.  It is theoretically possible for a railroad car to be loaded as far north as Churchill, Manitoba, and then travel by rail all the way to the Yucatan peninsula.  However, within all that, there are a few railroads which, for whatever reason, don't directly connect with the greater North American rail network.  Largely for my own amusement, I've been compiling a list of such railroads.  This list only includes standard gauge railways.

Sunday Ops

Engines and switching lists are waiting for the crews to report tomorrow for my first railroad operating session. Snacks and drinks are ready too. Five crews will work a fast clock from 1pm to 4pm switching cars and making up trains at both ends of the layout. This "shakedown" will help point out any problem areas to be fixed. After that, I plan on having monthly sessions with my friends to run trains and have fun.

West Toronto Junction: September layout update

Greetings everyone,

I've managed to get a bit of work done on my layout over the summer, but the work will really start to intensify in the coming weeks as fall sets in.

I've managed to paint track, get some basic scenery down and put down the parking lot around the Lambton yard office.

The Windsor, Colorado Sugar Beet High Line

I’m working on the final structure for the Windsor, Colorado sugar beet factory.   Windsor used a beet loading structure called a “high line”.  Although it’s not a common thing to model, I thought you may be interested in following along as I build it.

Building buildings

This is what's on my workbench today:

Porta-Pembroke

DCC Sound

While riding back from visiting a layout. I forgot to ask whether it's possible to add DCC Sound to a locomotive that has no motor. The person in the car said it is possible. Is it? indecision

Richlawn RR V2 - Palmer Kitbash Structure overhead door animation - UPDATED 10/1/14

*** UPDATED 10-1-14 ****

I've added a picture near the end of this thread showing the progress on the building.

O.K. - I know it's jerky, but at least the door opens and closes on my Palmer structure using animation.  I've used the servo and controller from Tam Valley to provide the motion.  I like the unit because it allows me to set the end points of movement and also the speed of the movement.  I've got more work to do on the project but wanted to show what I've got so far.

Heavy Duty Flat Car Loads.

I had posted this earlier in Luis' posts on freelancing as link, but I felt it deserved to be brought out on its own.  I know we had a flatcar load discussion going on, but here are two loads for all you guys modeling modern, today railroads.  Note the length and the number of trucks under each.  I forgot where I found this, but I believe it said these were being shipped to Brazil.
