It's been a while, anyone hear anything about the return of RMC?

Just wondering if the resumption is still going to happen and where things stand if it is.

Ballasting

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4s1OiQJ1kws

Hi Everyone,

I found this video of this installing ballast on his Marklin track. He really is very talented on how he does it. So meticulous and he looks for the perfection in doing so. He is one the modelers that understand that the track is really part of the scenery. I hope you enjoy it.

Question on Wye and Reverser

As I approach the time for tracklaying, I'm still a bit confused on the use of an auto-reverser for DCC. I know around my wye I should have one and would prefer using one and not some sort of switch.

I'm running a point to point with a large wye in the middle. The plan is ultra-simplified here.

Peavy Grain Reefers

Back in the late 60's/early 70's, Peavy bought used steel reefers for grain loading.  They removed the ice bunkers and loaded them with grain.  They were painted blue.  I remember seeing them, but never took a photo.  A search of the usual web sites has not resulted in a picture - Any one have pictures of those cars they can post?

Which solder should I be using for my model railroad electrical/electronic needs?

I am about to start a layout.  I have been stocking up the things I need; engines, rolling stock, tracks, etc.  I have read and appreciated all the information presented here in the MRH site.  I realize that I will be needing to do some (a bunch) of soldering.  My question to you seasoned model railroaders is .... which solder should I be using for my railroad? What gage, what mix etc.

Thank You All,

Pictures being darkened by upload to MRH site - problem?

I have noticed that when I upload pictures now (using Windows 7 / Firefox) that they are darkened significantly by the process and look horrible in the postings as a result.  I just noticed that another poster to this site is having the same problem.  I tried using different browsers (Chrome & IE) and I have the same problematic results.

What's going on?

Interchange Yard

A little update on the interchange yard. Added a yard tower, scale house, and lots of details. Still need to add a few more details and give everything a light weathering.

Fun with digital photo editing

I was having a little fun this morning, inspired by a discussion on another forum about editing digital photographs to resemble old black & white photos.  What do you think?

And in color:

If anybody really likes them, I have higher resolution versions as well.

Another Animated Door....

I was inspired to try this by the recent post by Rich (Richlawn RR) on Animating a Door.  So thanks again Rich!

This is a scratch built structure that I had started last winter which still had an accessible interior, so it was a good candidate for a powered door..

Foamcore vs. wood - Price comparison case study

There has been some discussion of using foamcore for layout construction, which got me thinking about using it for my own future layout.  Finding that I can purchase a 10-pack of 30"x40" online, with free shipping, for around $55, definitely encouraged things.  With that in mind, I decided to see how a properly designed foamcore layout would compare to one built out of wood.  Since weight is a bit of a concern for me (I have to build the layout and move it into position, and hopefully move it in the future), I realized that the lightest practical wood construction w
