Ballast pit revisited

Thanks to a friend (Mr.

Homemade Static Grass

I picked up a couple of these brushes at Walmart for about a $1.30 apiece.  I dipped one in 50/50 green acrylic paint/water and left the other natural.  I cut random lengths with scissors and applied with my electric flyswatter static grass applicator.  Not too bad for a micro investment.

Paper Model Prairie Grain Elevator

I am wondering if anyone on MRH might be familiar with this (apparently defunct) website:

http://www.angelfire.com/empire/auction/Members-Paper-Models.html

I used to have the author’s files downloaded but suffered a hard-disk failure on that machine, and no longer have the files. It appears the site is no longer active – as I cannot get the download links to appear on either of my two browsers.

What kind of cars are spotted ar your elevator?

Somebody...
     ...is confused...

This is the Richardson Grain Terminal at Letellier MB last week. There are 2 tracks occupied with mixed freight and not a grain car in sight. ;)

Yup... southbound trains are backed up on the BNML again.

Finally -- Working on the Napanee Viaduct

After having entirely too much fun this summer doing anything but working on the railroad, I am finally back at it. Started to build the landscaping contours around the Napanee River -- which forced me to expand what I was using to represent the viaduct. Today it is a two track arrangement and there are traces on the existing stonework that at some time it was widened to handle the second track. With the usual poetic license and rather extreme compression, the original river valley has been reduced to a section of the falls.

Layout Lighting

I would like some feedback on people's experience with layout lighting. The railway is partly double decked. There is a valance with flourecent lights behind it above the upper and lower decks. In 1000 sq ft I have 74 4 foot tubes in 48 fixtures. It gets really hot in there during an op session. I am considering putting lights in the isles and removing the valance much like Charley did here.

Demolition Begins (and ends 12/6)

I finally took the plunge and started tearing down Penn Lake 7.

First to go were the peninsulas .  I forgot how much room there was in the center with out them.

Help switch linkage from side

As I have stated in other posts my computer controlled commuter shuttle will be sharing one track of my double track helix. The helix is aprox. 4 feet by 6 feet. to conserve layout space I have decided to branch out the shuttle track from the shared main line in the top leg of the helix. My problem is that mounting a slow motion switch machine under table would interfere with with the track on the helix underneath. So I have to control the switch from the side. This is a situation I an not familiar with. Is there commercially sold linkage that will solve my problem?

Old dry transfers

Can anyone help? I have old dry transfers that will not stick to the model. Is there any way to rejuvenate them?
