New Layout Board Construction

Begrudgingly I've decided to scrap plans for my 2" X 8" freestanding streetcar layout in favor of a smaller streetcar shelf layout housed in the closet. I've learned a lot in two years and from experience I was able to build something better and more practical.

Some confusion about stockyards and cattle....

I've always thought that one of the things I'd like to have on my freelance layout is some sort of stockyard. I've looked at various kits and such for them and then I got to thinking that maybe a stockyard isn't really the proper term for what I want. Weren't there some type of rules about transporting cattle wherein that after so many hours on the rails that they had to be let out of the cars and fed, watered and/or exercised?

Pudding River Lumber Company

Thought I would post some On30 Modular layout work to see if it sparks any interest or comment.  The Pudding River Lumber Company is modular "layout" that is regularly connected to other modules in the California South Coast Modular On30 Group.  We display at train shows around Southern California and were a part of the NNGC Convention in 2013.

Proto 2000 factory railings and grab irons glued?

I have a Proto 2000 tan-box era (maybe '97) GP-18 that I am considering repainting. Does anyone know if the railings and grab irons were glued in or just press fitted? I am guessing they are just held in by friction but was hoping to benefit from someone else's experience before I try yanking on them.

Idea for fascia shelf and car card billboxes

I recently brainstormed with my mechanical engineer brother the whole fascia-mounted operator worktable and billbox configuration.  We turned the pencil/pick holders perpendicular to the fascia so they could be serve dual-purposes as the structural braces for the shelf.  We landed on this design showing two choices for the shape for the pencil/uncoupling pick holders:

Soundcar with DecoderPro?

Just got around to ordering a Soundtraxx soundcar decoder.  I have a small switching layout and will mount a speaker underneath.  Has anyone used DecoderPro with the Soundcar decoder?  I’m using a Sprog DCC to make CV adjustments.  Is there something special about the soundcar decoder I should be aware of?
