New car owner, patched reporting marks
It's common that freight cars get new owners. They often only patch the reporting marks and do not repaint the entire car. For model railroaders of modern eras it is a possibility to include cars from fallen flags in their roster - they only have to do the same as the prototype. I'm looking for more information:
- Is it obligatory for a new owner to at least patch the reporting marks? Or could it happen that a car has a new owner but no visible change on the car?

Manual method for the Walthers 90' Turntable
Hi Everyone, I'd like to install a Walthers 90' turntable kit. However the budget does not allow for a power motorized one. I'd like to be able to manually rotate the table from a remote location, ideally just under the fascia.
Also, I'd like to have power to the turntable tracks to move the locomotives into the stalls.
Hope some other fellow modelers and shed some great ideas. Thanks
Greg

Kansas City Southern Ft Worth Tx HO
Great operational layout that the life long work of Jim Norwood. This is a true labor of love.
Which booster for MRC wireless system?
I'm building what will be a fairly large HO layout and after scouring the internet I still don't understand which booster brands or models are 100% compatible with my MRC wireless system. Given the number of locos running at one time and bus runs limited to 30 feet, I think one or two boosters in the 3.5 to 5 amp range would be adequate until the railroad grows somewhat bigger, but I would like to choose from the widest booster selection while planning for future options.
Hobbybench you can build.
Woodsmith Magazine has plans for a great hobby bench. It is the latest issue #219. If you are a woodworker or know of one this would be a great bench to build.
Need Coupler Advice on Trix Big Boy
I am hoping to get advice from our resident experts in Kadee coupler options and/or coupler advice for an HO scale Trix Big Boy. I pulled this (much-loved) loco from my display case yesterday only to find the tender's coupler missing. After much panic & with extraordinary luck, I found the missing coupler. It is one of the Marklin/Trix pull-out variety which will require some crazy glue when I do final re-install. However, the original equipment coupler's height is FAR TOO LOW to provide reliable operation.
Sound for N diesel
Thinking of purchasing a new loco and never having any experience with sound decoders I would like some advice.Picked out a GP38 and digitrax decoder SDN011A0. I prefer the 4 axle loco.Being a very senior citizen I could not do the installation but I note that one of the MRH sponsors would handle that. I think it is a Kato loco.I use the Digitrax DCC system. Any advice? Do it or steer clear of this - maybe someone has a different loco to start with.Thanks. Tom
Middle school model RR: the economics layer
A model railroad makes a fantastic educational vehicle for many reasons, but when you’re working with a diverse group of kids it is the wide range of interesting aspects that gives everyone something appealing to explore. One element that finds subtle expression in the models but is largely a hidden force is economics.

Metrolink Rotem Cars
Metrolink started using Rotem cars a few years ago, but it doesn't seem like anyone will produce them (or true Surfliner's for that matter). So I decided to use the generic Bachmann Commuter Cars as a base. I did up some decals in Photoshop and printed and applied. Here's a couple shots at LAUPT to celebrate National Train day.

12V bulb and LED Wire Connectors
I'm looking for some simple 2-wire plugs/connectors so I can unplug certain lights if I need to do some future maintenance on, for example, a building.
I saw these and they seemed fine but is the 12V used on grain of wheat or a full 12V LED considered low voltage in this application? There does not appear to be any specs on it.
