WP Caboose ladder/paint

Hello all. My first post here.

I'm planning on eventually building a layout based on the Western Pacific. In the interest of getting rolling stock done, I've started building a couple of cabooses. They are old Roundhouse kits of the exterior braced ones rebuilt from box cars. But the kits come with straight ladders, not the prototypical ones that included the curved connection to the roof at the top. They look like this:

What is model-train-universe.com...

and why is it slowing me down. This is on my desktop and my tablet. I can read the choke point on the PC but not the tablet but I am thinking its both.

New MRC Sound decoders.

I thought I would update everybody on my MRC1913 sound decoder that I purchased at the Amhearst show this year.  This is the HO scale model and I believe that the 1935 is the N scale version.

Well so far so good.  I haven't run into any major issues to speak of but there are a couple of small things I want to mention.

A Legend Arrives!

It finally came!!  I may be one of the last in North America to get theirs, but my Canadian finally arrive today after the postal service misplaced it somewhere for a few days.  And my relief is only exceeded by my excitement.  This may be a boring post for many, so bear with me.  It will have a lot of photos and not a whole lot else but giddy mutterings by a 40 year old kid in a candy store.  Here it is as the postal lady brought it:

Helix for a 3 level layout

OK Gang, here is a real head scratcher.

A buddy of mine is moving into a new house and his lady has said he can have the entire basement as long as she can get to the laundry room. :)

He has a 15' x 25' room and a side room 5' x 8'. He wishes to have three layers in the main room and a helix in the side room.

His first level (32") we will call the south fork, the second level (56") will be the north fork and the upper level (80") will be staging.

Here comes the problem.

Open frame motors and DCC

As I mentioned in another thread, I have a couple Mantua engines to rebuild.  Both of them have open frame motors, like the one below (photo from ebay) and both of them run surprisingly well for not having been cleaned or run in years, if not decades.  I'd like to keep the motors, if possible.
