Modeling topic
Steam modeling forum
Hi all.
I'm a dedicated turn of the century (20th) steam era modeler. I'm fast becoming a fossil, I fear. Would it make sense to create a category in the forums for just that......Steam era modeling?
Near Scale Spiking
I’m using Proto:87 Stores Near HO Scale Spikes. These spikes are much smaller than even the Micro Engineering micro spikes with a head that is not so obtrusive. They are just short enough to not extend beyond the bottom of a full thickness tie, which makes it easy to spike the rails at the bench. And even though my track is actually glued down with barge cement, the spikes give a little extra hold and a big extra detail.

MRH - A Video Primer on How to Modify Your Signature Line
Recently I had a fellow MRH registered user contact me directly via email and ask how to modify his signature line to include information that would automatically appear in his posts. I produced a little (rough) video for him and thought that I would share it here.

CVP -EasyDCC Booster & Power Supply
I am interested in buying (1) or (2) 5 amp boosters & power supplies that CVProducts used to sell (now out of production). Does anybody out there have or know of someone who would like to sell them.

Benchwork Type
Back into the hobby after a very long absence. Thought i was going to build a cookie cutter layout. Was going to use Atlas sectional track. So headed to the local hobby shop at lunch for a great discussion. Except now i am second guessing.
Do I use a flat table and foam as suggested by the shop?
Stick to my plan and use cookie cutter?
Use all flex and discard the sectional?
Code 55 and 2-8-2's. Do they mix in N scale?
Hi MRH's
I am building a layout in N scale using ME code 55 flex and Fast Tracks #6 tournouts. The min radius is 16" with easements.Would either of these two locos have trouble with this?

or a 2012 Bachman Spectrum Light Mountain 2-8-2.
Any other comments about them, including fitting DCC and sound , would be most welcome.

Building a GE 85 ton steeple cab: The Trucks Get updated
So I fixed the weak spots and added an end piece to the truck.
I use the 3D program Alibre Personal Edition for all of my drawings. Most of what was fixed you can't see.
I also am drafting this at 1:1 and then I scale to HO.
The ends are raised as that way the parts print as 4 parts not one.
We will see what it looks like when I send it to the printer in a couple of weeks.

Decoder for Bachmann (ALCO) HO 2-6-0
I have an HO Bachmann 2-6-0 I bought about a year ago that is ID'd as "DCC ready." Taking apart the tender, I see the connector that I believe is designed to take a decoder.
I'm very new to the DCC thing. How would I determine what decoder to use? I would like to get one with sound which I realize will be more expensive. Do I only have to consider the footprint or are there electrical considerations?
If it will help, here's the applicable portion of the parts breakdown.
