Station section and beyond
I've been wanting to try a Homosote spline roadbed but my sectional approach has led me to try making my own roadbed. A 4x8 sheet of "sound deadening board" costs about $20 from the lumberyard so I wasn't in the mood to cut it to match my plywood sub-roadbed for fear of too much waste. Using 1/2 board cut into 1-1/2" strips seemed flexible enough to use like giant cork pieces but with enough profile to look right under my On30 trains. Center-to-center is from 2-3/4" to 3" (or more) so two pieces under the ties with similar strips cut with a sloping edge works out pretty nice.

Scratchbuilt Loco Update.
I have finally made some more progress on my scratchbuilt loco that i posted earlier in my blog.
I have finished the Keystone locomotive Works cab interior and i am very happy with the way it came out.

Billboard Cars
I was perusing the LDSIG Wiki tonight and chanced on a page on the timeline for significant changes in freight cars. I was surprised to note that "billboard" cars were banned after 1938. I knew we never see them now, but had just thought they were a passing fad. A ban seems capricious as I fail to see how their use could have any negative effect on railroad operation or safety. Does anyone know the rationale for the ban?

JL&T Railroad Blog - Layout Update #12...
Hi here is the latest video update on the JL&T...

Adventures in Restoration (of crusty old models)
I had to take a break from my Dash 9 project (last blog entry here) because it has been languishing on my workbench for a while, and I need to order some more parts one of these days.

Standard connections between engine & tender?
I'm starting to think about my future D&W locomotive fleet. There will be at least 7, possibly 8 available for regular service, not counting whatever Southern locomotives I build for the purpose. Of those, 5 shared two tender designs, and at least one tender was swapped between two of them in late '39 or early '40. I do not know if any other tenders were ever swapped, or why the one was. Depending on the exact date I want to model, I might need either one or both tenders for that one locomotive.

Another project: Scaling from a photo in Sketchup
I jump around all over the place, but this at least relates to multiple projects that I already have on the bench. With the purchase of the new TCS sound decoder, I need a tender in which to install it. I already have the loco(s), but the tenders are all wrong, so...

Finally finished my N scale 4x8 layout!
The layout is all Kato unitrack and has provisions for an entry and exit from the layout for operational staging.
