Photo Backdrop Printer?????

I have been hesitant to ask this for fear it will turn into a Digitrac vs NCE type discussion, but here goes.

I have been amazed at the photo backdrop pictures posted on the forum - especially Tom's Logansport and Indiana Northern, but did not want to hijack his thread.

I need to replace my dying inkjet printer.  I have used HP printers in the past (except for one Lexmart inkjet - colors did not come even close to matching reality).

Any expereince with Tam Valley radio DCC?

Ever since I first head about it, I've been interested in Tam Valley's radio DCC system.  Now that I finally have the budget for it, I'm considering making a purchase.  Before I do, has anybody used it, and can you comment on it?

Hammerjacks Free-mo Module

Slowly under construction is a 4ft Free-Mo module titled "Hammerjacks" after the famed rock concert venue in South Baltimore. For my first blog entry:

Hammerjacks gets a business district

Blair Line Pizzaland and Addams Avenue No. 1 form the primary block of businesses. Besides the pizza joint there is a Record & Tape Traders used music store, a liquor store and a pawn shop. Below are some progress shots

Modern freeway overpasses

I model in n-scale and modernish.  I wonder if anyone has seen or made anything that resembles the flowing freeway overpasses that are so common in California.  There are RIX overpasses, but they are strait and flat.  I have seen some bent somewhat, but I am looking for something that looks like the overpasses that appear like in this picture.

Maybe something like this: http://www.visualphotos.com/image/2x3810312/freeway_overpasses_low_angle...

Do you own/use a DCC decoder tester or packet tester?

With the wide range of DCC decoder problems reported here I'm wondering how many folks have actually invested in a DCC decoder tester.  If so, has it proven to be a worthwhile expense?  What brand do you use and would you recommend one to your friends?  On a similar note, has anyone had experience with packet testers and, if so, what has it done for you that you think you couldn't have done any other way?

Tonnage Ratings

How does everyone come up with their max cars per train? Do you use siding length, cars per axle, or more prototypically engine rating. I am guessing the latter would not be used modeling as we really can not get that many cars on the average layout.

I presently use a limiting factor of siding length, but am thinking of going a different route and changing it to one car per wheel on powered engines.

What are the thoughts and thinking out there?

Nightlight photoshots

Hi friends,
today, I tried to make pictures with some types of light sources to simulate the night or late sunset lights.
I present here some photos. Are well accepted opinions and advices.

Have 4 TCS T1 decoders all behaving badly

Using a Zephyr DCS 51 with a programming track.

Bought (4) TCS  T1's  put three of them in older yarders. reset their CV's to 111, 222, 333, 444.

111,222,333 all can operate in forward and reverse. The white wire is front light and it is on the minute I put the loco on the track. No rear (Yellow light) ever lights. Have moved all three decoders from one loco to another and the same occurs.

Side Dump Cars

I had a question come my way about my 30 yard western, so here is a bit more information.

This is what I based the 30 yard western on, mostly photos with just a few actual measurements. The rest was scaled from all the photos.
