Switching with Tab Waybills

The following is a series of photos showing how I switch cars using “tab waybills”.  In this case, the waybills are ¾” Avery labels stuck on both sides of fender washers (two cycle waybills).  Enjoy or ignore, the choice is yours.

Switch-Works Components & Ultimate Turnout Kit

This video introduces what the Switch-Works System is and what you get with the "Ultimate" turnout kit. Switch-Works is a set of jigs for assembling "Museum Standard" track featuring wooden ties, metal tie plates, etched frogs and machined points.

Building a GE 85 ton steeple cab: Testing the side pantographs and other updates

I did a light primer coat to protect the Micro Mark rivet decals I put on and to find more printing flaws.

I tried using my "green" filling putty on some of the flaws but it was not sticking to the printed body. I will have to look into that for any future work.

I decided not to worry about some of the flaws, instead I will make it look well used when I am done.

I put a number of the grab irons on but still have more to go.

Also installed the lights I chose for the project.

Any experience with LokSound Select or v4 DCC decoders?

I am looking for comments from those who have used, installed, or studied the LokSound v4 decoders. I am considering using a LokSound v4 micro in a older Walthers SW-1. I think it might be my best bet for getting sound in the SW-1.

I started another thread on my SW-1 upgrade: http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/13642

Body Removal Athearn SD60-I

Anyone done this? I removed the couplers and 1 screw beneath each truck...still the body seems firmly attached in the rear. Am I missing anything?

Thanks

Faller Roller Coaster kit comments

I built the Faller Fair series Roller Coaster and this is what I learned:

The parts are very precision and fit together very well making me wonder why other plastic kits are not made to the same precision.

A Few Questions About Intermountain Wheelsets

I'd like to start changing out the plastic wheelsets in my car fleet with metal ones.  Over the years the Intermountain wheelsets seem to be highly regarded so I thought I'd order a bulk box of those.  The stock number for the 100 pack of HO 33" wheelsets is 40055.

Sometimes Cheap is not the way to go.

I will start off now and say i'm sorry if I offend anyone and that this may have been an isolated incident.

About a week ago I picked up a Bachmann DCC GP30 for $50 at my LHS - Thankfully!  My son liked it and had no problems running it, but it was loud (Motor noise) and jerky.  The loud motor noise I could have lived with since we were upgrading from a Bachmann DC starter set, but the jerkyness caused constant uncoupling and turned a fun time for my 10 Year old son into work time having to stop and recouple the cars every 10 minutes or so.
