We Got a BIG Box of Goodies!
Yuma, Arizona, is about 200 miles from hobby shops in Phoenix, Tucson or San Diego and has dropped from it's winter high of 150,000 population to the summer (year round) hardy souls of about 80,000. Our little club, Rail Roadrunners of Yuma, is down to Marvin and me after having our 2 regular snowbirds, Ron R. and Bobber Gibbs of On30 Conspiracy bail after the first 100 degree day. Come November we hope to draw a few more birds.

Cobalt turnout motor
Anyone have any experience with Cobalt turnout motors? How do you think they compare with the Tortoise? Any issues applying DCC controls to them?

Dustbunnies!
It seems that keeping a layout clean means more than just keeping the clutter off the scenery. I seem to have a lot of what is so called dustbunnies building up on the layout. Spiders also seem to find my corners and seem to make webs everywhere I look. Short of breaking out the monster vacuum, what do you do for general cleaning of said issues, and is there a way of preventing at least the critters from returning?

Kitbashing a pair Canadian Pacific gp35
Hi,
I had a deal on a pair of Athearn rtr Canadian Pacific gp35. At first I thought that
a good weathering job and a few details here and there was all they
need. But when I started to look for some prototype reference picture
it doesn't take long to realize that those cp model are all wrong.
Fist the Bell and headlight are not at the right place.
Fine, that's an easy job. Let's do it and they will run again in a week.
Pembroke II: Suspended Disbelief
Andrew and I met in the garage again last night. The garage has been pretty full of layout for the past week, and soon the layout is going to be the sort of thing that I don't want to find bikes leaning against. Time to get it out of the way! So, up it went, next to the ceiling.
Bachmann 2-6-6-2 gear train slip
After a year or so of inactivity due to major layout reconstruction I was testing the layout operation with a coal drag with a Bachmann 2-6-6-2 C&O H4 as the helpe engine. I noticed when the drag stalled on the grade, the front engine was working, but the rear engine had stopped. Obviously, something in the gear train is slipping. Before I tear into the loco, I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem and has a fix been identified?
Trackplan Database - Have you posted yours?
Post your trackplan. We want to see it!
Please include as much of the following with your plan as possible:
- Prototype modeled (if any)
- Scale
- Minimum radius
- Room size
- Turnout sizes
No layout photos - just track plans please.

Trestle bents for module legs?
I'm just curious, has anyone tried making trestle bents (or some other railroad themed design, perhaps) for use as legs for a modular layout? I had this idea the other day, and I think it would look neat, but maybe it's impractical..

Servo switch machines
I'm ready (finally!) to start building my much-delayed layout. I'm trying to decide how I want to operate my turnouts. There seem to be two general schools of thought, I.e. hands-on vs. remote operation. I see valid points on both sides, but tend to favor the remote camp after seeing one guy break a ground throw on a layout he was a guest operator on and personally being responsible for knocking over a couple of pieces of rolling stock on an adjacent track when I was throwing a switch on the same layout.

They're here - my dozen boxcars
Due in Jan, finally delivered today. Hm, only 4 months late?
Renumbering decals already in, replacement wheelsets in the same box from the same order. Kadee #5s on hand - oops, have to order alternative weights....
At least something good. The replacement wheelsets also cover the ones needed for my caboose superdetailing.
I will say the detail looks good though.
Have to wait on the weights to start construction though, argghhh
