Layout work in progress

Hi All

Been working on the railroad ....duh... and have come up with a design to submit.  It is not complete, but I have the main line to where it looks good.

Layout is housed in a 31' x 39' pole barn.  My operational wants: signaling and operation as much as I can.  Era is 70's to now.  Sure, pretty broad in nature but it IS mine.

Main 36' radius.

Branch down to 24' radius in spots.

Less than 2% grade everywhere.

N&W "skunk" GP-38's

Here is a finished scene on my ho scale layout, which is based loosely on the Winston-Salem southbound railway located in Winston-Salem, NC.  The GP-38's in the photo are of the N&W experimental paint scheme "F8" or "skunk" done in 1982.

Thanks,

Tim

Do we have a challenge this year?

Was it last year we had the "challenge"  to see what we all could get accomplished on our layouts between Memorial day and Labor day? Anyone interested in doing something like that this year? I've been working on my bridge project long before this weekend but I did get the basic plaster work  in place this weekend. I'm going to challenge myself to see how far I can get from  this point on to Labor day. Heres a link to my latest blog post with pictures in case anyone  wants to take a look. http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/14052

AT LAST!

PROGRESS!! The railroad is coming along with the bulk of the work almost finished. I started out by laying out sub-roadbed of luan on which paper templates of the trackplan were laid out and taped down to check the fit. After that, center lines and outlines of the track were drawn with magic marker so cuts, where necessary, could be made before firmly affixing it to wood risers at 2 inches in height to provide elevation relief where wanted.

Two On30 Critter Builds

With summer out door projects going full bore I decided I'd need an indoor project for when it rains. Not that I don't have enough indoor projects on the "Honey Do" list, I just need to do some modeling. I figure let the "SWMBO" scream all she wants, I'm modeling today.

Background Buildings

I am planning a small (1'X6') (HO scale) industrial switching addition to my layout. Being new to the hobby and having no experience in scratch building models, to add industries, I am thinking of using Walthers Cornerstone background buildings. I would appreciate tips, techniques and photos from modelers, who have used these building kits on their layout.   Also ideas for filling the spaces between buildings. Has anyone used background buildings made by other manufactures?

Thanks.

Realistic Street construction ideas

Realistic Street construction ideas

Just a quick post requesting ideas from my fellow modelers on how to construct realistic looking roads and streets.  I have a need for a series of streets for my town area and I am not satisfied with any of my attempts so far, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely

Cleaning paint off loco windows

My masking did not work 100 percent. I'm looking for suggestions for cleaning the paint of the windows. These are American Model Builders (AMB) laser cut windows for a SW-1.

All ideas welcome!
