Trackwork

Diagnosing Track Problems
I have finally started my layout, the Texas unstoppable Fallen Flags RR ( TuFF ) and my first TOMA N Scale module, a 18" x 60" module that will be the nexus of my small pike. I have come upon a problem I am hoping the much more experienced models can help me with.

Part 3 - Update on the Changes to the Elizabeth City (Tulsa) Area of the Layout

Turntable wishlist and Development
So I made this commitment to design a plug and play powered turntable and write a tutorial on it , something that can be built with (mostly) off the shelf parts, including an Arduino. (This isn't about the visible bits of the turntable, just the mechanism that turns it.) Any wiring will be restricted to standard things like switches and pushbuttons, with no circuit building required. The recent post by AnyRail shows one possible approach using a popular stepper motor with internal gearing.

Track Alterations & Terraforming...
Here is an update on some track work alterations around Hummelstown & an extra siding that was added for storage...

To cork or not to cork, that is the question
I am planning right now to have mostly switching track serving an urban industrial area and also a small yard. I want that cinder ballasted look of yards and old misused industry trackage. It doesn't make sense to me to use cork roadbed. Subroadbed will be sheet plywood by the way. Should I simply lay track on the plywood? Would there be any profile and if so what would I use? I have heard of using N scale cork but that would leave a gap in the middle which would eat ballast would it not?

Peco Streamline & Setrack turnouts, Fleischmann Pro-Track turnouts
Yesterday I found many of my Peco turnouts, and and their 'Streamline' versions label their turnouts as 'small radius", medium radius, and large radius. Peco's small radius appears to match the Fleischmann Pro-Track small radius.
But I also discovered an even smaller radius turnout from Peco. I have a paper template of it, but not an actual turnout itself. It was termed a Peco "Setrack" ST-240,241 left or right hand turnout. Do they still make such an item?
Are the Fleischmann turnouts DCC compatible??

Mascoutin Valley Railroad Layout Update 010 - Sewage Back up and track 'how to.'
This update comes on the heels of a disaster we had last week in the basement. We had a sewage backup and it put all model railroad activities to a halt. Repairs and clean up occupied most of my modeling time.
I’m going to have to rip out my workbench and replace it since it is no longer sanitary. So all model building and dcc work has stopped. To get even more “down in the dumps,” I also had to remove my module set up station and moved my modules to the garage.
