Trackwork

Modelling in the Land of Sand

I suppose I should start with an introduction?  I started with trains more years ago than I care to remember, when around age 5 I received an 0 Gauge Hornby clockwork tank engine.  A couple of years later this became a Hornby 00 gauge 3 rail layout, then a 2 rail, until I had around age 15, a roster of around a dozen locomotives, all UK outline.

Runaway Loco!

While working to correct track connections for power, I ran into another problem. I have several sections of track working just fine and thought I'd try out the jump power packs I have wired. Here's the scenario and the problem:

Code 70 Switch Problems

Ok, I've got most of the "short" problems solved. However, there is a problem with the code 70 switches not having good steady blade contact and I'm not sure how to solve it. When the engine hits the switch, I can push against the rail with my wood uncoupling stick (to a point the engine hits it) or press down on the ties or the throw bar plastic piece and the rail makes better contact.

BQR Trackwork Completed

Well, finally got the last blank spaces on the layout occupied. It has been an interesting process with many changes. Gluing track and roadbed is definitely a mixed bag -- makes for nice, solid connections but taking it up is a delicate process at best. I will keep using a thin layer of DAP transparent latex caulk for any long, curved sections but for general trackwork nails are much easier to work with. Now that a bunch of stuff has been changed my original plan for how to handle power districting is in shambles.

Matte medium removal?

Question:I need to move ballasted track bonded with matte medium any special(i.e. easy) way to do this?My customer wants to move a switch/spur that has been in place for months. The track can be replaced but I need to save the switch.

Thanks for any help,Dr Dirt

DCC Shorts

HELP! I have finished the soldering and began to test my layout but have developed a problem. The Digitrak shows a running "o" which indicates a short. However, after trying a number of things, I still have a problem.

Here is the sequence:

1. After installing the programming track and 2 drops on the main line, the test engine ran well.

turntable

Don't know if this is the right place for this, but here goes. I have a heljan turntable model # 804 is there any way to motorize this thing. if so where can you get the parts and information to do it.

Large O-gauge turntables

What commercial turntables are available to handle large O-gauge engines (33 inches long)?

US Source for Peco Tracksetta Track Alignment Guides

Does anyone know of a US source of the Peco Tracksetta track alignment tools/guides?  The only sources that I've seen are in the UK.  Maybe I've not searched in the right places on-line.

Thanks for your help,

Bob

Choices

I am looking for some input from those with operating layouts. There are some choices to be made as I go ahead - - I have the option of installing some: A) under the track magnets; B) in track magnets; or C) use a pick tool to uncouple cars on sidings and along the main line at interchange tracks.
