Trackwork

Moving forward again with our SLIPS and DIAMOND

Finally I've found time to get the paused HO SLIPS and DIAMOND project moving forward again. Yeah!!!

No-ox

There has been extensive discussion about the use of No-ox as a means of reducing track maintenance and enhancing electrical contact between rail and wheel.  Has anyone tried using the product in rail joiners and/or on the contact tabs on turnouts?  I have never used No-ox, but based on what others have described it seems that using it on joiners (in lieu of solder) and tabs would be beneficial.  Any thoughts?

HO Track

I am retired now and my wife and I want to spend some of our time building a new HO layout. It's been almost 50 years since I have been in the hobby. Things have really changed in those 50 years. I had the old brass track and now there is brass (not used much it appears), steel, and nickel silver.

Howdy All,

"Turning" Turnouts into Crossovers . . .

It doesn't seem too well known by modelers that turnouts and crossovers are typically laid differently on the prototype. Possibly because most of us grew up with RTR sectional track, which usually only has "shorty" turnouts in the limited track range. And those shorty turnouts were so handily designed to fit "heel to heel" to make sectional track crossovers without any further thought.

Testing grout for ballast on my CNJ Bronx Terminal layout

Testing grout for use as ballast.

After much deliberation I decided the next step in construction would be to start ballasting the trackwork.  To be honest, I have been dreading this, as my experience with ballasting is it can make or break a layout.  Getting the colours and texture right is critical to creating a good model of the original.

JL&T Railroad - L&T Branch - Track Work...

Hi All,

Well today I started the final sections of track work for the JL&T.  These being the L&T Branch and the remaining section connecting the JL&T module to the centre peninsula.

Narrow gauge yard on my Collier bluffs and poker flats layout.

While 90% standard gauge my layout does feature a NG branch. Mostly because some of my freinds GAVE me the equipment and track to get started. Heres a shot of the yard.
