Trackwork

Weathering ties - before or after ballast?
I'm using Micro Engineering Code 83 track and want to weather the ties with some different colors. Your opinion please if I should do the work before or after ballasting. I plan on painting some of the ties different shades of grey and brown. Thanks.

Curved turnouts in/out radii
I am considering using several Peco No 7 curved turnouts in my layout design. The outer (though) curve radius is 60in and the diverging curve radius is 36in.
Are there any issues with track radii of 36 inches entering and leaving the 60in radius of the turnout? While I have some room to work with, long curves of greater than 36in radius are not an option. Short (10 degree) curve segments of 48in radius might fit into the design.
Thanks
Alan

Shelf Layout Turnout Options?
I've been working on a new shelf expansion on my layout. This section is 59" from the floor and the track is no more than 16" deep. There are two main lines running through the middle and they will be on cork 3/16" thick. The yard spurs off to the sides will be on foam 1/16" thick. The roadbed is 1" foam insulation board on 1x4" framing.

Building a home for a GE 85 Ton Locomotive: Wiring and switches complete
The temperature outside has been a daytime high of -25 for the last 30 days, so I have been inside spending a fair bit of time working on my layout.
